A 10-9 walk off game? Sounds pretty even to me.

"If the UIL does not grant one, Bickerton said they will be hearing from the school’s attorneys."

Oh screw you, Bickerton.

"As of now, I don’t know. If it’s not changed, then you’re pretty much telling the kids it’s OK to cheat.â€

Again, screw you Bickerton.

Sounds to me like this team took a shortcut in getting their umpires, and when the other team lost, their RAT found a loophole and whined and whined until he was given attention

Suspend the coach a game I guess, but the game should definitely stand.

Sounds like it was one hell of a game. The way the article reads, it does sound as tough a FPSR infraction was missed. Having no other info, I want to believe it wasn't a case of cheating, and looking into the selection process of the umpires sounds like grasping at straws from the sour grapes losing team.

Where is someone from the UIL on this site to explain why the UIL would not send umpires and what happens when games are worked without going through them and how many schools do not go through them. Do both of these schools use 2 separate groups for their regular season games. Inquiring minds want to know??

They were heavily favored over Eagle Pass and wound up loosing it...........wow...........it just has to be the umpires fault.  I mean how else could it have hapened?

You would have to see the video of the walk off balk to understand. But from your understanding of another thread where MIdAMUmp espoused philosophy you probably wouldn't balk in the bases loaded winning run without it being an elephant balk. The umpire selection process is straight foward but will probably come down to he said she said unless they got email proof.

Game stands. Stfu. FPSR INT is judgement. Not protestable. Balk as well. Go home.

I am from South Texas and have heard from fans, coaches and other umpires that they blew this game. Kid obviously slid on the right side if the bag and made contact with F6. I was not there but from the video I saw the umpires favored Eagle Pass. UIL selects umpires from the requested chapter and informs the home team. The home team coach never did his paperwork or received an email. Eagle Pass coach admitted to hand picking his umpires on Monday. Then again UIL failed to have an administrator there for this game. The video is on YouTube sharyland vs eagle pass pt 1.

Not clear enough for me to see BUT balking in the winning run will always start a big one then and for days after.

On top of agreeing that it's ridiculous whining, I'm blown away that a state playoff game has this kind of haphazard official selection process.

Some people call coach Bart a sore loser and other names but the kids work hard all season and do not deserve to end their senior year like that. They say UIL never allows a replay of a game but I am assuming that is with the proper umpire selection and procedure.

Seems on the video the ump called it right away, the pitcher did not stop in his delivery. The ump can be seen calling that before the camera moves to follow the foul ball.

This video might help. To accuse umps of inpropriety is a hard sell. Pitcher was in stretch, not wind up with bases loaded.

Hate when lawyers get involved in any game.

Why in the world does Texas let coaches pick umpires for ANY game?

STUPID!

Like they mentioned in the article they need to go thru UIL and request a chapter then UIL selects the umpires. Coach bypassed all that and hand picked them. When I worked the semi final and state championship I was informed by my assigner.

Starting to smell.

Do you not see balk?

If I couldn't see balk I would smell skunk. But umps didn't load the bases, umps didn't have pitcher throwing from the stretch with base loaded.

Sounds to me like crap from a rat manager!

Agreed BUT the bypass of protocol will taint the situation.

I do not believe these guys cheated in any way BUT where was the state governing board?.

Sounds like Georgia's GHSA, just waiting for football season to start in their offices.

Look, when you take the field, you're accepting both the officials and the condition of the playing field.  Once you lose, you don't get to b---h about being screwed.

And of course, there were NO mistakes made by the losing team in during the game.  You know, where the other team got 10 runs.

No, I don't see a balk here, especially with the winning run on third base.  Looks like some booger picking to me.

Did the schools not agree on the umpires before the game?  In Missouri, the schools hire playoff umpires themselves, but the visiting team gets to pick one umpire and the two teams agree on all three before the game and issue contracts through the state governing body.

With that said, the idea of attorneys and replaying the game is ridiculous, but it does seem like the system is at least flawed if one team can hire all of the umpires without the other team having any idea about what is going on.

He paused long enough in that situation.  Are you really going to call a balk there?  No way, horrible judgement.
