redsox , that is tough to say , equipment choices is very personnel . There is no one size fits all , here my :2cents: . pro nine LG was my first , excellent knee (padding) coverage , next the new allstar lg1000 , very popular with many on this site , for me they are OK , good ventilation , very good knee (padding) coverage as well , i recently bought a used pair of the gerry davis/wilson davishin LG , very low profile and light weight , unique wrap around design , as of now my favorite , and last i have the Cadillac (if you want to call them that) WV gold triple knee A3409 model , heavy and built like a tank , for those gms where pitching is at or above 90 +  .

The Douglas shin guards are the Cadillac for me. Used the triple knee Wilson's in the past and I own the all star system 7 shins. I wear the Douglas almost exclusively. Lighter than the Wilson and offer the same protection. The ability to have them recomditioned is also nice. Going to check into the reconditioning on mine after this season. Not exactly what they charge or what it entails.

I like the new Davis Shin's....so light I forget I have them on, great protection and they strap up very easy and are so comfortable....

I have been using the All Star system Seven for this season. Today, I sold them and let me tell you why. Granted they have this ventilation pads and all, but that is at the expense of protection in my opinion. I was hit by a fast ball in my left shin earlier this season and it hurt like hell. Ok, it's just a fluke. A month later I take another shot to the shin. It hurt like hell. I switched from the Wilsons which I had never experienced that pain in 12 years. I ordered the Wilsons again today. I know, I am a wimp. Yes. But I won't be a crying wimp.

I bought the diamond featherlite's this year.

They are low profile and pretty comfortable. But some definite caveats:

They tend to "turn" when you run, and you have to recenter them every so often.

They don't have tons of padding. A direct shot will hurt. As evidenced by the giant knot on my shin that i got today.

The ankle flaps don't stay down as well as I would like. But they would be great for JV and below. Varsity is where I got stung.

May save up for the wilson's. I know some guy's swear by them.

I have the honigs k 20 shin guards... Love em besides that they tend to "spin" taking off the ankle flaps helped with the problem but still have the problem... Will probably go with the Wilson triple knees for my next set of shins... I just wish I could modify them with the honigs buckles instead of the metal hooks.

If you are looking at the Wilson's take a look at the Douglas shins. Same protection, much lighter, the ability to be reconditioned,

Best I have ever worn.

What are your guys view on the diamond ix3's. I have the double knee Wilson's right now and I love the pertection but I am having a hard time running in them. I feel like are weighing me down. I have been looking at picking them up but I have also been checking out the new champro hockey style shins that ump-attire started to carry. But I haven't heard enough or seen enough to see if they are worth it.

I got the Douglas shins this year, buy them once and never worry about buying another set again.  Are they expensive - yes.  Did I spend almost as much the past 5 years "trying" other brands that for one reason or another got replaced - yes.

I gave away all my traditional shin guards, and kept my hockey ones for a few reasons.

The protection is nearly the same. I do give up ankle bone coverage, with the lack of flaps. I wear 450s, so I retain shoe coverage. That's the down side.

The straps are wide velcro. Perfect adjustments, and far more comfortable.

The narrow bottoms fit right into the top of my 450s. Total coverage, when I'm locked in, at that key junction.

They're far lighter, and far easier to run in.

They have a smooth knee joint, and never catch my pants.

They take a shot as well, or better, that baseball shins, IMO. I've done the ball on the end of the golf driver shaft test with the Bauers and the Davis vs. the Wilsons.

If you do find a pressure point when testing your contraptions, think about installing the Team Wendy helmet inserts, found on eBay. I think I'm going to put a couple right at the bottom of mine, as it seems to be a pivot point. If you're using a hockey style helmet, you might consider the same thing.

Use what you like, trust and feel comfortable in. YMMV, and one size does not fit all.

Ordered a pair of these...they have changed slightly...in size 16" (they don't appear to make a 17" any more) from Hockey Monkey. Hopefully I will like them. Looking for something to rotate with my Douglas shins. I will let y'all know. Kyle gives them two thumbs way up, so we shall see.

I went with the Wilson grey last week and I love the feel and the look. They are first class all the way. I upgrade to a WV Gold early this spring after some nasty shots last year that brought  tears to my eyes.

Hey, I'm worth it Jack!

Besides at least I look good with Pro style wear!......I think!

Wore my Bauers for the first time yesterday. No issues to report and no shots taken.

Very comfortable. Also were not noticeably warmer than my Douglas Shins. Very comfortable and no twisting. I think I am going to like them. A great alternative to the diamond ump- lites. Provides better protection as well. No ankle protection, but the diamonds ankle protection is not much anyway.
