Do they have more than one size, or are they all "One size fits most".

$200 retail, really?

I'd like to try one on, just out of curiosity, but I can't see it replacing any of my current rigs. Not even my DaviShield, which I keep because it's so quirky looking.

Now, if it were made of carbon fiber.......

It seems like they did a lot of tweaking since Pete tested it. The entire protector almost seems redesigned since then. I personally think it looks good. The only problem is that it only comes in one size (it was originally supposed to be available in a M/L and XL/XXL). Below is a reply I got from Schutt yesterday.

We apologize but there is only one size. It is very adjustable though

and should fit everyone comfortably and safely.

Thanks for choosing Schutt Sports!

Not sure how well that will work for us big guys. I am interested in any feedback from anyone that gives one a shot.

I received an email today from Schutt promising to send an updated CP to review. I have to respect the Schutt company for listening to the public, making design changes, and subjecting the CP to another review.

I'll post here once I have finished the review.

That's great to hear Pete!

If you look at Schutt's football stuff, and the reputation they have (LOTS of folks wearing their pads and helmets), I think it's pretty clear that they'd be interested in producing a good product.

I mean, ...if you're making shoulder pads, you sure could make a chest protector, right? Think 'Douglas' :yippie:

The folks at Schutt sent me the redesigned AiR Flex CP and I had a chance to wear it last night. I will post a more complete review on Midwest Ump, but here are my initial reactions.

The plates are different. Schutt explained that the plates on the CP I previously tested were photography grade, which I thought was a bunch of hooey, but these redesigned plates are considerably more substantial and made from a more rigid plastic. The holes are fewer and larger (10mm v. 5mm). There is also less padding around the shoulders for a more comfortable and closer fit. The plates have been re-positioned. The chest plate has been moved up closer to the neck, so I no longer worry about clavicle exposure. A shoulder cap has been added to prevent gap exposure. Lateral plates have been moved closer to the chest plate.

The AiR Flex is very light-weight. The fit is comfortable and more form fitting than my Wilson Platinum. I did not experience the same degree of slippage with the Schutt as I do with the Platinum. I also felt very comfortable and cool in this CP.

My initial reaction to the AiR Flex CP is very favorable. I want to conduct some measurements, testing and photographs, and then I will post the review on Midwest Ump.

I can't wait to hear..or read your comments. I HAD one on order earlier this spring and cancelled when it became obvious they were not going to get it out before June/July. I need to upgrade my CP for next season and the Wilsons are too short in the torso for me...champion is out of the question. Waiting on All Star and Schutt to get their stuff out...may go with a Douglas...just have to see.

Schutt is one size ....not sure what All-Star is going to do, but usually, as in All-Star fashion, they listen to the masses....so they'll probably have something longer ....and , if Jeff @ Douglas has parts left, they can make you a 14 or 15 ...I have the 15 and it's fantastic

Can you post a pic of your 15" douglas? All the pictures on the site are of the 13" model. I just want to see how much length diffrence between the two.

About 2"

If I remember, I'll do it after work ....but, it's a 13" with a 2" extension that's not as wide as the 13" original bottom hard shell piece

Seriously though. I have a Gold (larger size) and a 15" Douglas. The Douglas is probably 1.5" longer. The thing I love about the Douglas is the low profile. It does not provide as much side protection as the Gold however.

Correct. The bottom plate on the 15" is slightly narrower than the plate about it. No real issue with that though. I might grab a pic when I head home for lunch in a few.

Here is a pic that Jeff Cook sent me of a custom one they made. This is actually an 18" with extra side protection. This is basically a 15" with an extra plate at the bottom. Jeff quoted me $45 for the plates on the sides.

A 15" is the very bottom plate under the plate w/ the white label on it ....without all the side goo! ;)

That makes sense because this one is 18" and the plate below the one with the white label on it appears to be 3" compared to the bottom one that looks to be 2". Thanks for the clarification.

I like the douglas with the added padding right under the arms. I wish mine had that. Not so sure about the extra length and the added extra pads near the bottom. Not sure how well all of that would form to your body since it is so much lower than any strap that pulls it all together.

If I hang on to my Douglas I might ship it back to them and see if they can add those under arm pads. I always felt un-protected right there....now if there was only a gap protection pad at the collarbone.

Who needs an 18" chest protector? Is Lurch umpiring now?
