Here's the problem ......

It's where the ball crosses the bag, we all know that ........and that's what Davidson is saying , and that's fine .....

You've got everyone else complaining about where it landed .....

and finally, ..you do NOT HAVE a really good angle on it .........you just don't ....

Agree with you here. The only argument MLB network is using for a fair ball is where the ball landed. Is this their first year in baseball? Even before I started umpiring, I knew that on a ground ball, it is where the ball is when it passes the base. Also MLB had the Marlins announcer call in, and he said it not only coast the Marlins the game, but cost Atlanta a game also as Philly gained on them in the NL East race. They are wanting him to come out and "man-up" and say he kicked it. They also were hammering Davidson for not following the ball after it passed 3B. It doesn't matter after it passes the bag.

I can't tell either way from any of the angles I saw. Davidson had the best seat and he watched it at exactly the point where it matters, as it passes the bag. Gonna have to go with him on this one.

Very close indeed! Only person that had the best view was the Umpire himself.

Any other angle is no good!

Not according to the Marlins broadcasters. Apparently, the Marlins dugout had the best view. :HS

This is from last night. Video seems to show a bad call and of course that's the consensus of the media. The umpire says he stands by his call. So is it possible this ball could have had enough spin to make it curve around the base ?[/QUOTE]

Sure it could. In a lot of major league parks the foul line from the box to the outfield grass is a permenent line usually made of a rubber like material. I have watched the grounds crew sweep it off many times at Fenway Park.

Point #1: NOBODY had a better angle on the play than Davidson: not you, not me, NOT THE CAMERAS.

Point #2: see Point #1.

There ya go: foul ball...

You should be a lawyer.

There isn't any arguing with that logic.

I talked to a fellow umpire that tends to be a know it all. He asked me about it and told him you can't tell from the angle we see. He said the U3 was three feet foul to start and was going up foul with his hands before the ball got to third. I just watched it again and he is full of crap. The umpire was moving foul to clear the ball and at most was three ft foul and never came up with his hands until the ball bounced in the outfield.

Please, please PLEASE - do not post stuff like this.

Anyone that listens to the inane, ignorant and moronic ramblings of Rich Waltz :beerbang will be DUMBER for having listened to it.

And then there are the 3 Stooges in the studio who let him continue and not one of them bothered to point out that where the ball lands is 100% and totally IRRELEVANT!

I did get a good ROFL when Waltz is whining about how the Marlins are "fighting to stay in this at .500..." BWHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAA

Are you ;) kidding me!!!??!! .500

I personally think Davidson was too far off of the line. He misread the ball and it came back to bite him. He had about as good of look as the camera did.

a) Standing too close to the line = ball could end up hitting you... and what if had been fair and hit him?

B) If he's too far to the right, as you seem to think, then that angle would likely have led him to call it fair due to his angle.

c) The camera angle shown is way sharper to the line than Davidson's viewpoint; no way you can tell from that.

No kidding. I watched that video the night of that game. Rich Waltz is a frakkin' idiot. He kept talking about Davidson's "mechanics of making this call" and "He didn't even watch where it landed, he was just concerned where it passed the base".

Then he goes on to claim that Bobby Cox is going to bring the call up when he sees Davidson next. As big of a rat that Bobby is, I doubt he would do that Rich, you dumba**.

Yeah, that was hysterical... why the fook would Cox give a rip about a call made when two other teams were playing? Or maybe Cox would do it - - just to pad his ejection stats. B)
