Agreed. HC tried to tell me that the batter normally draws lines in the dirt as part of his routine. Almost laughed at him and the first thought I had was "maybe he should change his routine".

But if this kid does this EVERYTIME he steps in the box to set his feet, etc ..... pitch one, ...ball. He steps out quick, gets his sign, ..steps in draws a line, checks his feet....

Just asking if it was a routine of his. Not defending the kid, ...just an honest question

Yeah I see what you are saying. I think it's a stretch to say it happens at this level though, maybe at 9U. If it does, he better draw the same exact line with no mannerisms after a called strike if he has any chance to stay.

This is probably the most automatic EJ historically (perhaps only behind the "YOU + _________ EJ).

my question to you is this: did your assigner, crew chief, and anyone else that matters (maybe people that work for the state athletic association) back you and say "great job" on this EJ or did some of them tell you they wish you would have handled it differently given the circumstances?

I am not judging the quality of the EJ at all, just curious...

I've had plenty of EJ's that are textbook EJ's and I've never received a "Great Job." on the EJ. Most of these are simply "doing my job" EJ's. So I guess I don't know why an assigner, et all, would ever say Great Job on an EJ.
