Screen Name ???

Ok everyone ... a fun Friday post ....

Where does your screen name come from (if not totally obvious)??

Mine is funny! Back when I first started umpiring (1990) I did a tournament with my UIC at the time , and a couple others that umpired in the assoc. At the tourney it was hot, and humid, and there were t-storms in the area.

Well, having an affinity for 'weather' ...I was the guy checking the weather and pointing out the cloud formations ....and the others started poking fun at me. One thing lead to another, ...and this group of mom's were walking to a game, and my UIC says, ...."Uhmmm...Jeff,....."those are thunderheads!!

And, well, the name stuck!!!

ok, so a bunch of years ago I was born...........and since Stan Musial was one of my dads favorite players..............I got the stan part....( good thing ENOS Slaughter wasnt his favorite guy hunh?).....last name starts with W..........

While some take mine as a self proclaiming 'know-it-all' and respond accordingly with that same demeanor (I won't name any names on this site alone), it actually came from the idea of 'that is what we (players) were supposed to address the umpire as'. We didn't call him 'blue', or 'ump', or any other names. We addressed him as 'Mr. Umpire'. 'Thank you, Mr. Umpire.' was how we were taught to talk to the umpire.

It stuck with me and that is why I use it. No other motivation behind it. Although, there are those who will disagree with that.

Umpire in Chief, because I started the site and I'm the one in charge. In hind sight it might have been a bit big headed.

I post elsewhere as TarheelUmp because Im from NC and a huge UNC basketball fan.

BTW... If anybody has chosen a username they don't care for or otherwise want to change just let me know. It's easy enough.

I always used my name. In the beginning I thought that posters who did not SIGN their name were cowards and therefore, I took less credence in what they had to say.

Known posters such as Carl Childress used their REAL name and as mentioned IMO added credence to what they had to say.

Rob Drake a MLB professional umpire used his REAL name on his site (It has since been shut down because MLB told him to)

I later found out that some used acronyms or nicknames to protect themselves and therefore, I now do not have a problem with posters using acronyms / nicknames instead of their REAL name. To each his own.

Besides I am sure Others already have a nickname for me anyway.

There can also be a problem for peoples employer. For instance I am allowed to give my full name, but I'm not allowed to mention where I work. I know there are some companies out there who as long as you're employed by them you can not use your real name online in any level of social networking.

When I started on the boards many moons ago I was umpmst, ump plus my initials. On some sites I am Michael Taylor but most just mstaylor, easier to type.

when email was a novelty i was fooling around looking for a yahoo nickname and i put in thurstonhowell3 and it became my yahoo email name....th3 for short

Live in Kansas City (MISSOURI), I'm a big royals and chiefs fan. kcfan102 is my user name for everything because it's easy to remember. When I joined this site, I just took my username for everything else and declared it good. The "102" part? Couldn't tell you why I have those numbers.
