They're burning the dugout down over there...that's a pretty good clue that there might have been W&D. I didn't see it from that first camera angle. On the other replay, it is very clear. In NCAA minus the "grab" isn't the announcer wrong on his interp of a legal slide?

At the time the announcer's ruling may have been correct. The video is from around 2005-2006???? Not too sure on the date and the rule was changing a lot back then.

Probably could have interference on R1. 2B umpire didn't have a good look at it.

Using todays rules the slide was fine. R1's slide did not interfere at all with the fielder.

As far as the hand. The umpire could not see that at all. But still i dont think it was a grab. Maybe just a touch. Maybe he was protecting himself?? Who knows. But I don't think it had any effect on the throw to first.

The grab was pretty intentional.

It was intentional but so quick and so subtle that there's no way the umpire could have seen it given his angle. Heck, the announcers didn't even notice till about the 4th replay or so. Jay Bilas, the college basketball announcer, said in a radio interview last week that if he doesn't see a foul in live action that he won't ever criticize a missed call. It's not fair to Zapruder a slo-mo replay and criticize.

I agree 100% and I posted that above. I think that is a very fair way to evaluate.

This play was shown at the NCAA meetings the following year and we were clearly told that it should be interference and get two outs but I dont recall if it was a rule chenge between the play and the meeting.

Assuming you saw the grab. In three man you might be able to get it.

it actually looks like he's putting his hand up ....look later in the clip, you can clearly see it, and there's no motion with R1s hand that signifies 'grabbing' ....

If you have him actually grabbing the SS then it's interference even in pro. I'm not sure he actually grabbed him.

Honestly not even sure you could see it from deep C where he is positioned. Hell even deep B you might not see the grab.

Deep B in 3 man you should see the grab. You have nothing else to watch other than to clean up the play. Deep C, not likely, regular C, it's possible...but it's all judgment...I'm certainly not implying that I would've seen it. These videos provide for learning opportunities and discussion.
