Good luck to any of members going to school in a week or so. I know a couple have intentions but I am not sure who is actually pulling the trigger.

Yep, go. I graduated from college in the fall, (December) many years ago...I would have been ideal for me to go that coming winter. I wish I'd had a mentor to talk me into going. Now, it just will not work with where my life is.

If you're questioning going or not, find a way and go. If you have to max out your Visa to go, go. Even if you don't have professional desires, you can set yourself up quite nicely for as long as you want to umpire.

I'll be down a Harry's in a week as well

Are you going for a job? I hope that I get a roommate with a desire to go pro. My overall goal is to be in the top five of my class. I know thats a tough goal but you have to aim high right?

I hope you're not a financial advisor.

No, but I would have done it back in the day when I couldn't afford it. I would have paid itself back many times over.

@Codyw09 I probably will be one of the few people who won't be aiming to go pro since I have a career that I really enjoy. But, that doesn't mean I'll be taking it easy and won't be busting my chops down there. Heck, I'll give you a run for that top 5 spot. =)

@fhsbb232 I'm coming from NY, flight gets in Monday afternoon

Anyhow, I'll see you guys in a few days

1. Wear a suit when you show up.. your trying for a job, it's a job interview. Get there early as you can so you dont have to wait in a big room all day. DON'T, DON't ask questions.. If your thinking of a question, wait they will more than likely answer it. or some other guy will ask it. Stay after on the fields everyday and work on things, don't party.. or wait till sat night...Don't talk in line when your waiting for your turn for drills, stand to the side and practice ( this will show determination).. At class in the moring wear your base umpire clothes.. DON'T.. DON'T wear shorts or jeans to class ever. True story..last year we had only 2 night classes, on one of them me and my roommate went to the room and changed into slacks and shirt and tie.. Head instructor said " nice Choice".. funny huh me and him got sent to PBUC...LOL

dont play football on the beach, unless you want to get hurt..

If you play golf take your clubs, cause on Sundays you can play. take a voice recoder so you can record all the things about the rules and the really cool way they go through the book.. I took notes and got carpal tunnel syndrome...J.K.. good luck work hard, study, have fun, make friends... and dont ask questions...

Think of it like a five week job interview. You never get a second chance to make a good first impression.

Those of you going use these next few days while you can to ask questions. We have guys here who have gone both to Harry's & Evans, both for the fun of it and for a job and even a few guys who have had stints in MiLB.
