I use two just able every chance I get. Personally I like to have three on my right (throwing side) and two on my left but can be comfortable up to 3 and 3... any more than that I worry a ball might fall out.

Most HS games however, you are lucky if you get three baseballs at the start of the game.

Its all personal preference. FWIW, if you look at MLBers like Alfonso Marquez and Angel Hernandez, they wear only one bag... just they way the are used to doing it.

Use one one game and two the next (or vice versa) and see which feels best. Then go with it.

Same here and plenty of room for a small bottle of water for the hot days.

I worked with one for years then I switched to 2.

It's another form of game management. When they ask how many balls you want to start the game, tell them 6 or 7. One to the pitcher the rest in the bags.

Usually the look on a managers face when I tell them that the first time is classic. But having that many speeds up the game because you wont have to be asking for balls after the 1st inning and anyone chasing them down won't hold up play. I also start asking for more when I get down to 2 in the bag.

I wear one, have a buddy that wears two. He keeps small snacks & hard candy in there! He also wears a helmet and keep sin hat in the spare bag when he has his helmet on.

Usually I wear two, but sometimes I'll wear one. If I know that I will be working at a field that does not require a lot of replacement balls I might just go with one. I keep my indicator and brush in one bag and my lineup card and pencil in the other.

I use 2 bags and like to start a game with 6 balls, 3 in the right bag, 2 in the left and the pitcher has the 6th. Left bag has brush, pen and lineup pad, and a small blue wash rag (wipe on hot days), in addition to the 2 balls. Between innings I load up again and not many innings have to be delayed for lack of balls. When I get down to 1 I make sure the home team knows it.

I use two. But I modify the accessory pouches in my left bag so that I can fit my whole hand in one pouch, and that's where I work my indicator. I never have it in my hand, I just reach into the accessory pouch in my left bag, and turn the wheels.

Three balls in each or 2/3 like the others. In the right bag's accessory pouches, I keep my plate brush, lineup card wallet and stopwatch.

I can't imagine getting by with only one.

So I'm reading the posts here and seems a lot of you carry your brush and your line up cards in your ball bag. has carrying the brush in your back pocket and the line up card in your shirt pocket fallen out of fashion? Is this something that has been mandated by your associations, or is this the way you were shown when you started and that's the way it has always been ?

It's just what I've found to be the easiest and most comfortable. I was never shown or mandated to do things one way or another. I know some people who keep their line up cards in their shirt pocket, but everyone I know keeps their brush in their ball bag.

I don't think it's fallen out of fashion, I just perfer using the inside pockets.

Lineup cards and smokes w/ small lighter are in the shirt pocket; plate brush in back pocket; cellphone clipped to back right of my belt; water bottle clipped to back left of my belt. Keys are where they always are, on the stainless steel heavy duty retractable key chain, on the right front of my belt. Did I miss anything? Oh! the "mask hanger"... I wanted one, but there wasn't room for it! :rollinglaugh:

In my never-ending search for a better way to do things (everything), I have the brush in the top front slot of my right bag. It comes out and goes back in there in a flash. The lineup? Well, I had one fly out of my shirt pocket once, and that was it; ball bag ever since. Plus, there are times when you don't touch the lineup card wallet until late in a game, so there's no need to have it in your shirt pocket all the time.

When I'm at the plate, I have nothing in my hands or in my pockets. Everything is in my two Ump-Attire Ultimate Ball Bags.

I wear ONE bag...Its just personal preference. I carry 6 baseballs on to the field, throw one to the mound, and keep 5 on hand (and no they have never fallen out of my ball bag). Cards in shirt pocket and brush in back right pocket. Just do whatever feels comfortable to you.

I, too, only wear one bag. However, I have recently purchased 2 new bags from Jim and am going to give it a shot at wearing 2 ball bags. I keep my lineup cards in my shirt pocket, brush in the ball bag, and indicator in there as well in between innings. I hate things in my pockets, so I absolutely never keep anything (including brush or indicator) in any of my pockets. I don't know what it is, perhaps the bulge of something being in my pocket.

On a side not, while we're talking about ball bags, has anyone ever seen someone wearing a ball bag in the field? I have never personally seen this, but each year at our association meetings our asssignor has to address the situation because someone has done that before. I don't see how anyone could be so crazy as to think this is normal, but I thought it was rather funny!

I also have a spare indicator, spare pen, sharpie, etc. as well.

But to clarify, we keep the money and extra crap in the handy zippered pocket on the underside of the Ump-Attire Ultimate Ball Bag.
