I am looking to replace my original +POS heather grey pants with some charcoal pants. I am not ready however to take the step the the polywools yet. I am trying to decide between the Smittys and the Honigs Ultimates. My question is, for the people that have worn both of these brands, is there one that is better than the other? Thanks.

I am going with Gerry Davis for next season hopefully there is a sale in the spring. With that being said I been using the smitty charcoal and there great. Despite the name smitty has some quality products.

At some point, you will wear poly wools. Then you'll "get it", and come back here and thank us.

Why delay it by wasting money on pants that will sit on the bottom of your bag, like my Gerry Davis do?

Let the church say AMEN!

I bought Smitty's at the start of the 2010 season... I bought one pair of poly wools for the state playoffs at the end of the year. Fast forward.... I now have 8 pair of poly wools (4 base and 4 plate). The smittys hve not seen the light of day since. I know that sounds like a lot, but I have winter and summer pants that are different sizes :)

I only wear the poly wools they are the best so cant comment on anything else. I cant stand the way Gerry Davis looks when i see someone with those i just shake my head they look terrible.

I love the look of the Smitty pants...however they are cut for skinny folks! I am not fat by any stretch...I'm Thick :cool2: As former college football O-lineman I have large thighs. I have a pair of their plate pants and they are just uncomfortable when I get into my stance. I have even tried to use them in the field after I hemmed them shorter...still no go. I don't like the way the Davis look, Ultimates are just slightly dark heather and look terrible just like heather.

I will probably break down and get PW's for next years High School seaon...unless Smitty can change the cut on their pants...

I think the Ultimates are a different color from the others we are discussing and the Jerry Davis are too. I know this is a minority opinion but I prefer the Smittys to the Honigs. Some groups of guys seem to wear the Davis and some the others, the first guy should buy whats commonest in his area.

I need to edit this to add that I think Smittys has two different colors of pants as well and one nearly matches the honigs polywools and one doesnt. My commetns are on the ones that do match.

I understand that Ump-Attire is going to roll out a UA brand of pants (soon I hope). If they are as comfortable at their Ultimate shirts, and of a compatible color, they will be worth the wait!

If you go with Honigs go with Polly-Wools don't buy the cheaper ones. I have always had problems with the inferior clasps they use.

The Smittys are a great choice.

I have some of both.

I REALLY want to wear my Honigs PW, but I keep going back to my Smitty's and Dalco's. Smitty's because they are very forgiving - loose, expandable waist, and they move with me really well. Cons on the Smitty's is that they feel a bit cheap compared to the HPW and the combo pants crotch hangs a bit low.

My Dalco's look just like GDs. I really couldn't tell the difference when I worked with a partner a few weeks ago who had GDs (I couldn't see any GD green tint in the sunlight). Dalco's are very light and move well. They just don't have the same visual texture as HPW and Smitty's.

My HPW's are great quality, but despite ordering a size up, I still feel constricted, especially the base pants. Probably just a sizing issue, but I cant spend all my money on different sizes. Smitty's don't have this issue, though the Combos do look a bit baggy. Smitty's Base pants look great.

There seems to be no consensus in everything I have read. Certainly HPWs are excellent quality, but I am not so sure they win every criterion.

Can't wait for the UA Ultimates.

Do we know when the UA pants are coming out? I'm considering getting a pair of polywool's, since they did go down in price.
