We're at the end of June and I am not scheduled for the 4th of July weekend. Usually it seems there are a few tournaments going on but after Wednes day I have nothing until July 12th!

I've got a tourney I do every year. www.beachblastbaseball.com

I usually get the 13u. All games are a 2 hour time limit and I pick my partner. It's decent 13 yo ball. $50/game cash at the end of the day. This year I will do 3 on Friday and 3 on Saturday. Sunday, I will work my regualr adult league DH, very good ball and less bruises.

I also have an adult league game on Thursday night, about 25 miles south of me. This means hitting holiday weekend traffic the whole way down. Normally a 45 minute drive, I expect it to be at least 75 minutes. I may try an alternate route.

KCMO-Kansas City and Leavenworth, Kansas. Don in Kansas (the western part) has been instrumental in trying to hook me up with some Jayhawk League and/or Walter Johnson/NBC games in the central Kansas area (Wichita, Derby and El Dorado) and MazzaMouth from other sites is looking to getting me some college level and/or Legion ball in the KC area.

Hope to be working somewhere as I have a 4 day training holiday on 3-6 July.

Hoping I get to experience some of the great baseball played in this area and add to my umpiring resume and meet some great mid-western umpires in person.

Later in July I hope to work with MidMoUmp in Columbia, MO area one weekend.

Keep your fingers crossed. I know it is hard for an assigner to put a guy on a diamond with that level of ball sight unseen.

Yeah last year I got a couple tourney games but for some reason this year with the economy there are a lot of them that didn't go on this year. It kind of works in my favor because I'm going to Gettysburg with my girl friend this weekend.

Have you looked into the Frontier League, Dave?

I met a guy from Paducah that was working up in S. Illinois (Marion Miners game) a couple of weeks ago.

I have LL district tournaments going on this weekend.Major league is pretty good ball. The junior leagiue is simply awful. Hope everyone has a good fourth and take time to remember why we have it.

I don't think there is any of that around here. There is a Northern League Independent A ball team here, The Kansas City T-Bones but I am sure they only use contract umpires with pro school diplomas. I got a Legion game on Sunday somewhere south of KCMO from Mike Mazza, MazzaMouth on the other boards and I think he is on this one now. Thanks Mike. Don In Kansas hooked me up with the Jayhawk League guy but he told me tonight he had everything covered this weekend. So, if no ball to work I will go to see the Royals vs the White Sox and watch the big boys work. Should be fun.

Thanks for thinking of me.

We've started LL All Star Tournament play down here in FL. 9 - 10's started last Friday and luckily, last night was first rain-outs. 4th was an off day, but will be played now for make-ups. Rain chances still high today. I have done 3 games so far. Pretty good ball for 9 - 10's. 11 -12's and 13 - 14's start Monday. So, there will be plenty of games to work. There are a couple of nights with 6 games going on at one time and we work 2 man for all. We will be working 4 man for at least finals, hopefully in all levels. Hope to get selected for that! Have a great 4th!

So did you see the spot where that Maine college professor made his charge downhill against the 15th Alabama?......

I decided to not take any games this weekend, and instead went out Friday and watched my kid work his first solo games of his umpiring career. Man, it's tough doing that. There was a couple times I wanted to throw on my uniform and take the bases for him, but I kept telling myself the experience was good for him. He got through it ok, and was able to work the dish for the championship game. I'm proud of him, 16 years old, brand new this year, and worked the championship games of 14u, 15u, and 10u tourneys. On the 14u, he even got a chance to work 3 man mechanics.

For me, my wife and I took off Saturday morning, drove 2 and a half hours to Nevada, and spent the night there playing some blackjack, keno, and bet a few baseball games, as well as Wimbledon. (#$%&*%$ Roddick!) It was a great break from baseball, kind of my "All Star Break" of sorts.

Now it's 11 Legion games this week, then I am UIC of the state Cal Ripken 11u and 12u tourneys next week, and then will be working the Cal Ripken 70ft Pacific Northwest Regionals the following week. After that, my season is pretty much over, unless I get called for the odd game here and there.
