1st-I was taught as a BU to call "Time", not "Foul". It is my job to call time for the contact, but as with play here, it is PU who determines if it is foul or out of the box. 2nd-I don't know that any BU has a better view of the positioning of the batters feet at time of contact. I for one have only once called a batter out for this and it was a drag bunt from a lefty and my partner was blocked.

What are the Most Annoying kinds of Spectators
bassfam11 replied to prumpire's topic in Free For All
I was taught that IF you must move a bat, keep your head up and eyes on the ball and runner. Squat over the bat like a center in football and "hike" it between your legs towards the backstop. -
If on the rubber, how is this a phantom balk? I assume he was in fact at least in the mound area (a ball, not a balk)?

NO! NO! and NEVER!!! :angel4:

agree %100. If we don't call it, they will never learn. Call it when you see it. Just like those early season Junior games when the coaches ask you to NOT call balks. My response is always "I'll call them, however if you guys chose not to move the runners that's up to you". I call both IP and balk at all (appropriate) levels.

Short and sweet as has been repeatedly mentioned. The only thing I do differently is I do MY stuff first. 1.)Introductions 2.)Get paid 3.)Sportsmanship at all times 4.)In legion and adult ball I do remind the coaches that the FPSR is in effect, as many coaches believe that since these are OBR games, that anything goes, NOT TRUE. All slides must be direct and to the bag or away from the fielder. 5.)Time/Run limit if applicable 6.)Go over rules on courtesy runners 7.)Ok coach take us around (ground rules) Takes 2/3 minutes, don’t need or want help from my partner at the plate conference

Just remember, you must wear black hat and black ball bag with pink shirts:)

I am looking at the 2009 CCA manual and it says "C" in all bases loaded situations

1 Friday DH Saturday 1 Sunday all Legion, teams here have rained out so often they would play on Christmas. ;)

AMEN :HD:

Think I got this here but I am not sure. A fellow ump advised to try think of it like shooting a gun. Control your breathing, inhale before the pitcher begins his wind-up then exhale and hold steady during the release. It has helped me a number a times when the blinkies have come around. :HD:

We too use arbiter, it is set up with NO acceptance window. As soon as you log in all assigned games are automatically accepted. We are assessed a $10 fee for all turn backs that are within 7 days of the game. Our calendar to block games is only open from February until the start of HS ball (April 1). If you need to block a day after that you must e-mail the assigner. Our assigner fees: BB Varsity - $4.83, BB JV & F - $3.50 Independent BB $3.00 SB Varsity - $4.69, SB JV & F - $3.43 Independent SB $0.00 Our association Fees $104.50 (dues, State HS fees, rule books and insurance) Note: the $10 assessment is not automatic, if you have a good reason, no fee is charged. Also, you have right to appeal an assessment. The fee is really used as a “stick” to keep guys from cherry picking games, more often than not the fee is waived.

I had a great assignment, plate for a "Carpenter Cup" game. The tournament is a regional all-star tourny. Had game #10 scheduled for Thursday at 12:30 pm, got moved to 2pm then rained-out and moved to Saturday at 10:30 am. It too rained and was rescheduled for Monday at 10am, but I can not take off from work Monday and have lost game:tantrum: http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/phi/community/carpenter_cup.jsp

I always use one on the bases. I never show it unless asked by my partner. What we do is, when the PU gives the count and BU agrees, give a slight head nod of approval, if BU does not agree or is unsure do nothing.

#1- BU, chest to ball, chest to ball, chest to ball!!! Always read the ball!!! #2- I don't necessarily agree with small field as the best place to start. For the very reasons stated before. I have always believed that it is easier to train a recruit doing games he knows and understands. The unpredictability of LL makes it more difficult to get "into it". Heck trying to teach a rookie to call minors (U10) is almost impossible. I have found that if you start with big field 13-14, 15-16 games and then work down they can transition more easily. just my .02$

what UiC said you just need to imagine you are on a grass infield, only way to do it

Interesting, do you guys allow jewelry(we allow it), what about reentry by starters(no reentry by any player)? DH for pitcher only or for any player (pitcher only). Didn't know different areas played using different rules. I need to get out more often:smachhead: We only cover the Camden County league.

I do a lot of Legion BB in NJ. The national governing body mandates that ALL coaches must where batting helmets while coaching a base. See J-3 http://www.baseball.legion.org/forms/alb_rules2009.pdf Legion does not follow FED rules, they use modified OBR It is important to note the FPSR is in effect. No malicious contact at any time. I see a lot of "take out slides" and always call interference on it.

What was the umpires mistake????

I was thinking it is time for them to get a room :Horse:

The DA believes it is against the spirit of LL to accept cash. I still volunteer for some leagues, but if a league does pay, well, I ain't too proud. Most every league I know has trouble getting volunteer umpires, and most umpires I know move on from LL. Seems silly not get the best available umps for a game, but hey LL does some silly things sometimes.

2 things math error?? glad you found what you are looking for :)

Lol, most times if I ask for four, the coach looks at me like i'm an alien!!
