That's good, but it's Saturday I'm worried about. Wow, I just realized I have way too many bad stories when alcohol is involved.
-
Also, whatever you do, don't do like I did and go out drinking the night before. 95 degree heat and a hangover can be killer when you're in full gear!!
-
Stretch and pray!! Might not hurt to have some ibuprofin on hand, too!

Obstruction by the Pitcher, yes. Unsportsmanlike conduct by the Batter-Runner?

I agree....in real time it looks like he is just preparing for impact. There is nothing malicious about it in my opinion. -
I've never been a big fan of the sliding rule sets. Too many kids don't know the proper way to slide which is why there is usually an injury in every league every year due to the slide rule.

Honestly since you said it was the assistant coach, I think you were fine. They are there to assist, not coach! Now if it had been the coach, then I feel you probably should have warned, first.

Whats the biggest crowd you've called a game for
DirtyDawg replied to Umpire in Chief's topic in Free For All
My largest crowd was at a intramural softball upper division championship game. I don't know if I can claim them all or not, though, as I think about half the crowd was passed out drunk. -
Way 2 Go!!

Send that crap down here, we're as dry as can be!!

I remember at the ripe old age of 16 (first year of umpiring) I got my first Stri------ball call. That was the first time I ever saw a curveball (both playing and umpiring wise). Come to think of it, I think it was more of a Striii....ball, ball, ball call!
-
No.....at that time, Babe Ruth cost them the game!
-
Nickname I got in high school from always trying to bend the rules in my favor, with an ability to typically get away with it.
-
Hell, I'd almost leave the field that day and tell the other umpire he's got it all under control!
-
Slowpitch softball.......I don't really know, I always get stuck behind the plate for slowpitch, so people always expect me to overrule an umpires call......they kind of freak out when I don't. I tell all my partners I may ask for help or they may ask for help, but we never overrule each other. Not only does it look bad, but it leaves tempers on the field in places that there should be cohesion!!
-
I do it all the time whenever I cover third. My partner realizes it and then makes a v-line to the plate to watch my back if I'm unable to get there in time.
-
The real question is what do you do if his players decide to not pick up the crap the coach threw out on the field?
-
Plannin on seeing you there, Yawe.......I'd room with ya, but I think the wife's coming along for the ride.

You ever hate working with a certain partner?
DirtyDawg replied to buddywilshire's topic in Free For All
My guy isn't a mechanics screw up or a rule screw up, he is just a human waste of time. This guy would honestly make a call, and then spend 10 minutes explaining why he made this call. Then while he was explaining the call he stumbled through it, kind of like Porky Pig. It might not have been too bad, but he was the plate umpire that game, and watching him explain why he called a pitch a strike/ball did kind of get on my last nerves. -
What is your thought on the "neighorhood play"?
DirtyDawg replied to buddywilshire's topic in Free For All
Had a girl pull her foot off the bag trying to turn a double play in my tournament last weekend. Boy was the stand suprised when I didn't call the girl out! Oh well!! -
I guess there is our culpret. Welcome aboard, buddy!

If they would have then I want my world series title back from Kansas City. Haha......only kidding kc!!

Why does everyone always go to La Russa as the baseball expert?
