I'm going to purchase one this fall too, so I am also interested in others' input.

It's a balk. It wasn't a fluid and continuous motion (which includes bringing your hands together). So, as soon as he comes up and stops (without bringing his hands together) it's a balk. Remember, if it looks like a balk --- it's probably a balk.

I just did my 30th last night. But to my defense, I do live in the great white north.

BUT, I thought that with a fair batted ball, you must determine if the ball hit the bat or the bat hit the ball (was the bat stationary or not?). If the bat was moving, interference is called and the batter/runner is out. If the bat was stationary and the ball rolled into it, then play on. If the dropped bat strikes the ball in foul territory then the play is dead with no penalty (foul ball). Is this incorrect?

Open east/west, not north/south. That's my opinion.

No run may score when the third out of an inning is a force out. Eventhough the tag was made, the runner was still forced to second. This is even true for a appeal when the third out is a force.

Maybe I'm overthinking, but somehow I remember the penalty for this being a ball for an illegal pitch not a balk. I seem to remember reading this interpretation years ago (maybe I'm wrong).

What level? Not intentionally dropped fly ball? We had a full 7 in 1hr20min yesterday afternoon.

"TIME! I'VE GOT DETATCHED EQUIPMENT. YOU THIRD BASE!" Or something along those lines.

I tend to tone down the volume of my strike calls when I'm doing little league, but my strike calls for the older kids and men are fairly loud.

Batter is out with 2 out. Think of it this way, you don't want to see the batter who interfered as the first batter next inning, so call him out.

Just got my GD plate and base charcoal pants in today. I like the waist option. I normally wear a 34-36 in most pants and these give me some room to spare. I like the comfort and I think the extra room to stretch will be benificial in the early season cold. I have always worn Fetcheimer base and plate pants (non pleated) and wasn't sure if I would dig the pleats, but I surprisingly like the look.

No balk. He is stepping and throwing to a base. He must throw, though since the move is to first.
-
Defenately a delayed dead ball obstruction. If the obstruction caused the missed base then deny the appeal. Protect the runner probably to third (your judgement).
-
You may get an argument that there was no voluntary release after the catch. Therefore, no out at first, nevermind the interference. As far as the interference goes, the bad throw brought f3 off the bad into the runner. Nothing there.

From what I've heard, the pro interpretation has not filtered down to Legion, Babe Ruth, and any other leagues that use obr. So he still has to be off the dirt as far as I know.

Is it true that MLB has went to "western style" pockets on their slacks? This is what I was told. I personally don't like the look of these pants (seen on Honigs' site).
-
It's true. In MLB the plate umpire does pick what he wants to wear and the rest of the crew has to match each other. Most of the time they do all match, but sometimes you see the PU wearing a different color than the BUs. It happens more often in Spring Training (that's where the pic came from since the PU is wearing Grey which isn't worn during the season).

The only downside to the SG is that I had to cut off the extension (since I already use plate shoes).

I've purchased all new Wilson gear for this year. I love the mask (Wilson titanium) and shin guards (charcoal model). The mask is unreal. The weight and range of vision are the best I've seen. The shin guards are light, comfortable, and fit like a glove. I've just retired some Honigs guards and the Wilson's are in a different league. The CP is the West Vest platinum. I'm still getting used to it (my old CP was a soft shell) but I've taken a few hard shots without a problem. Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the Wilson gear.

Sorry, thought R1 meant runner on first. I guess he's saying R1 is the runner on second. Then no, he's not out.
-
First of all, if less than 2 out -- Batter is out. Im not a FED guy but, in regards to the Interference, you must guage intent. If ball bounces off catcher and deflects and hits batter/runner -- I've got nothing here.

Nothing shows hustle better than a BU taking the runner to third on a triple. Why wouldn't he take him to third? He's got nothing else to do on this play!
