Why not just keep your regular bag in your vehicle all the time? That way, you have everything you need with you all of the time. Seems a lot simpler.

I do NABA games here in East Tennessee and have had absolutely zero problems in the past 2 years. You do hear the occasional whining, but nothing serious and no where near as much whining as you hear in Jr. College ball here. Out of curiosity, what are your game fees in other parts of the country?

Like I said, I know what the book says. In 2 years, you have seen it twice. Amazing. Must be some lousy baseball. I have NEVER seen it happen with, as Tee says, shaving-aged players. NEVER. Anyway, it's really not a big deal for the plate umpire to cover all the bases. Think about it, base ump goes out, plate ump goes to dirt on mound to see the touch at first, moves to the back of the mound to see the touch at 2nd, moves to the 3rd base side of the mound or closer to see the touch or play at 3rd and then moves to the plate. The plate ump has moved a total of about 120 feet. And it's not really a problem for this 53 year old umpire.

When, if ever, did you see it necessary, in big boy ball, for the base umpire to have to come in and cover home? Read the play? It's a single runner. I haven't been doing this as long as most of you guys, only 29 years, but I have never seen the base umpire have to do ANYTHING after he goes out. And I know what the book says.

Who cares? It's 100 degrees. Don't be too hard on them, they're working an NCAA Super Regional.

If I have plate: 1. You take a single runner all the way to third. 2. If you're in "A" and go out, stay out. 3. On a check swing, give what you've got. 4. You've got all tags and touches at 1st and 2nd, I've got 'em at 3rd and home. 5. I will do standard rotations to 3rd, runner at first or first/third, basehit, first and second, basehit, runners at 1st and second, fly ball to outfield. I will signal and verbalize. More as time permits or if I've never worked with this partner before.

Was the BR put out? If so, you have a retired BR "hanging around" home plate. Interference, double play. If not, interference, dead ball (Fed), double play.

If you knew this, why didn't you get the Dalco or Honigs?

First game of the college season for me. Temperature was 36, it began snowing at the start of the game and we had to suspend after the bottom of the 3rd inning. I had the bases and had on everything I could get on! I just hope this isn't an indication of what the rest of the season will be like.

Jr. College and Div. 2 are supposed to start next week here and there is 8" of snow on the ground. It ain't supposed to snow in SE Tennessee!

It seems as if some of us are overly concerned about getting hit. If you're worried about getting hit, you're in the wrong avocation. Like BrianC said, lock those elbows and use your knees for support.

If you have a large head, 7 1/2 to 7 3/4, you might want to consider an Easton HSM. I've tried the Wilson and the Diamond and they were both way too small for me.

I believe a early, FIRM "Knock it off" would have probably prevented what happened in the 6th inning. Usually works for me.

I tried them, didn't like them. I found them to be way, way too hot. And how many times do you get hit in the thigh anyway?

I have always liked the Fecheimers, I used both their plate and base pants. I just like the way they fit and hang. I bought some of the Smitty's dark gray pants for the summer and they have been good pants except for the fact that the plate pants are not wide enough to accomodate shin guards they way I like. I love the Honig's poly-wools, but they are just too expensive for me. Next year, due to Fed alllowing dark gray, I will be wearing the Gerry Davis dark gray if they ever get my size in stock.

130 games? Wow, I don't know how you guys work so many games. Even if my regular work schedule permitted, I still don't think I'd work that many games. Ya'll must be studs.

I say the bases are harder. Behind the dish, you are forced to concentrate on every pitch. On the bases, it is much easier to lose concentration, etc. The dish may be physically harder, but at my age (51), it seems the exact opposite. If given the choice, I'll take the plate.
