Absent seeing the actual language, mandatory is mandatory. If fully thought out, there would be a provision for last inning or locking in that said runner is not catching to start next inning.* Is that a "booger to pick"? Maybe. Better path to let the other team complain? Likely. But you can't fault U2 enforcing the rule, "technically correct" and all that. Now that is second order thinking. * In LL CR is allowed with 2 outs for F1 and F2 of record to avoid coaches from playing games.

Observed one of these the other night in 12U OBR. LH batter, catcher makes no attempt to get around the batter - just wings it. Batter was in the box, moving backwards as he relaxed following ball call. In box as the throw goes off side of his helmet. If he had remained dead still, there would have been contact. No call, R1 advanced. DC asked but didn't push too hard.

🤦♂️ Taking that in a vacuum and as true so that I can How to tell me you don't care without telling me. Epitome of dishonest harmony over honest conflict in the name of getting it right. It is a developmental league so I'm not saying anyone should be boiled for soap but I sincerely hope this was sincerely taken as a teaching moment and not given the ol' Smitty "eh, I called a balk when the all wasn't in play, whatever. The right team won" Results oriented thinking is a crime against humanity.

Close Calls at 1B - What Can We Do? If Anything
Velho replied to johnnyg08's topic in Umpire Mechanics
From watching the result of the replays (of which the above isn't a good example to compare with the foot hitting the base) it's when the glove flexes from the ball hitting it - almost always in the back of the pocket. Security is implied from the call on the field, i.e. in and out of the glove would have been safed and not challenged. -

Based on language used by MLB it's when ball touches glove https://x.com/MLBReplays/status/1942798347406078365 -
I ain't mad at that. Lot of body language we get from behind the plate.

I don't see the batter offer at the pitch, it's not a strike, and I don't see him leaning into the pitch. Didn't get the bat so foul is not possible. It him so HBP.

At what point abandonment? Or is this a tag or an appeal play?
Velho replied to Jay R.'s question in Ask the Umpire
"Don't make the stadium call! It's obvious." Well, based on how incorrectly the crowd reacts to the simplest play, I'm a cynic on what's "obvious". Cash may be King but communication is Queen. (For OP, I'm thinking casual safe sign and maybe a low-key low volume verbal "safe") -

Makes sense. Curious, was there a base coach? -
Doesn’t appear they got two outs on this play (and I checked the box score)

New Mock Neck Compression Shirts Available
Velho replied to concertman1971's topic in Umpire Equipment
I saw the pictures before I read the comment and was thinking how much I had to hunt for the logo. These views sold me because I do like the product concept (and not just because you mentioned Malachi (whom I've met a few times). Guess I'm just not creative enough to realize that from the bare pictures. I'll put it on the shopping list - along with new pants after I get back on track with losing some more weight. -
I've worked games with TrackMom but not Trackman. What's it like?

Can you expand on what you mean by that? The river is 6" and 2 1/2" of that is a strike by rule. So do you mean striking anything not touching chalk? Or are you getting into the chalk?
