  1. To be clear: you're referring to grabbing CI even though the batter bailed out of the box?
  2. From the bases side, there are too many times to count that I've thought it went down off the batter's foot but waited, waited, and I was the only one in the whole place - batter included - that thought that. This is why I struggle with "if it had gotten him my base umpire would have called it" hardliners. On one of those that I think it likely did, BR runs, no ones else says boo, BR comes all the way through first, is Out, and then protests it hit him. What do I, as BU, do now?
  3. Slowing down to read everything and get the HBP/Foul right is a major development area for me. Biggest one that stands out is 12U inside pitch, hands pulled into avoid, off the hand/knob. I got the sound. It hit something. If hand first, it was a lot of bat. Batter simply turns away. One foot in the box, looking at 3B coach. I'm just watching him. He's no selling it, giving me nothing. I finally call Foul. 3B coach comes down to discuss. I tell him Foul. He says, batter is crying. I feel stuck. Held to foul ball. Another, 12U again. Inside pitch, no swing started, ball comes across hands. I have sound but no bat. I'm thinking it scraped the knuckles, and go with Time and HBP mechanic. Again, kid no sells it, stares at me defiantly. Now I'm confused. "Did it hit you?" "NO" (with attitude). I was in a mood apparently: "Fine. FOUL BALL!". It's possible it got the velcro strap of the batting glove that was hanging lose. I didn't grok that in the moment but realized during post game with partner. I hate to go the soccer route but... Sell it kid. Sell it!
  4. Ask and ye shall receive. 1975 edition.
  5. Interesting read of that in the moment thread, especially in light of how Replay is now. Honestly, I had never seen the reclutch of the ball on that play and don't recall seeing a conversation of it since I joined UE.
  6. I get migraines (that are getting much better) and have some nerves issues so I probably over do it but, during the season when I'm doing 3-6 games a week while also lifting (at a lighter level than offseason), I do some LMNT electrolytes at waking and before bed. That's on top of doing them in game as well. We can get hot here in San Jose but not the AZ max temp/low humidity of high dew points (I never plan to live in humidity again after living in Hotlanta). The biggest contribution I have is to echo some of the above: 1) It starts a day or two earlier. The one major episode I had was doing a game after a 2 day migraine where I ate and drank almost nothing before a game. 2) Don't be the stubborn bastard that most of us can be. The above was only 80 but humid (for here) and the last inning I tapped out and went and sit in the dugout. I should have done that about 2 innings earlier.
  7. Or is this a technique to advance?
  8. I can see that (don't agree since I have it off the front edge of the glove, but that's moot). Just wanted to make sure there wasn't an argument that it touched grass through the open webbing on that OF glove.
  9. But what is the batter no sells it? No reaction or anything and simply stays in the box?
  10. So folks don't have to hunt for it Full speed https://www.youtube.com/clip/Ugkx_MqwZcUpoHFflzHGEw-mVW--r4i6wkp- Slowed down https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxZdD2XgSm_umyNjon6KCefWU7TylEiWl1?si=j3MnOM3z7PG0aIsX
  11. Is Lindsay saying it DID touch the ground? (the replay was Call Stands). I get the sense she's arguing it touched the ground through the webbing. I don't see it touch the ground outside the glove at all - but maybe what the fans tell me is right.
  12. With the benefit of video vs real time, I think there are two tag attempts. One where Baez veers left just as he gloves the ball. That attempt ends as he shoulders to the right in consideration of throwing to 1B. Then a second tag attempt before again aborting to throw to 1B.
  13. Thanks. Since I knew the end answer before watching the clip, I misinterpreted the initial point to place BR on the INT. What do we think the conversation was? What about U3 was comprised such that his fair call was invalid?
  14. Did PU first call it foul without discussing with U3? From that clip it sure seems it (I let my MLB.tv sub expire so can't check).
  15. I'm good with this. I think it's borderline (but grabable) even had F4 had been attempting a tag the entire time vs two separate tag attempts. (Which U2 only saw the second tag attempt). Add in avoiding the fielder in the act of fielding and/or moving so as not to interfere with the possible throw, and it's a good no call. If we're going to parse these to the gnat's behind, we have to have a definition of the A & Z measurement points. Point A as tag attempt begins is which: inside or outside most foot? Or other body part? Center of mass? Point Z as runner reaches max distance is same or opposite foot? Other body part? Center of mass? Without that you can only get the most egregious instances. (Bonus point of contention: base path ends at the bag or runs through and beyond it?)
  16. Pshaw. More suppressed technology from the 70s! Just like the car that runs on water.
  17. Thanks all. The optics are, and were, awful. Appreciate the input. I should probably stop there, but... I can more than appreciate the doubt that U1 was in position to call it. On this particular play F6 planted his feet to box out R2 before F2 threw the ball, F6 never moved from that initial position, and there was F6-R2 contact before F6 caught the ball. Even had it been an "in the act of fielding the throw" provision ruleset (which it wasn't) it would have been OBS. U1, U3, PU, and an off field evaluator all had it the same with no doubts. There are some extenuating reason U1 called it in real time vs PU/U3 but they aren't relevant to my original question. Again, thanks.

Fair in comparison to the existing methodology. I was thinking about it in a vacuum and accuracy to within inches.

Which makes me remember that NFL is using Hawkeye to do First Downs this coming year. I'm skeptical how well it will work. Very noisy environment.
  20. Sigh. Yeah, be careful what you ask for.
  21. Interested in y'all's thoughts on how to best handle this situation. 4 man, R2 gets too far off post pitch, F2 back picks to F6, F6 OBS, U2 calls Out*. U1 gives two beats and comes up big to grab it and award R2 3B. I saw it as well and was going to go with waiting for OHC to come out and U2 to get us together. Thoughts on either method or an unmentioned other approach? * Not looking to debate if it was OBS or the reasons U2 didn't grab it immediately. Assume unequivocal OBS however you envision it.

Where did this come from? I've hunted for this and not been able to find it published by any of the responsible parties (Hawkeye, MLB, MiLB, ATP). Given the distance, pitch movement, and tech being used (unless they have many more cameras I'm not aware of), I think this is actually pretty good. Can't imagine getting more accurate without a laser system.

I couldn't decide which to use, and this comment is so on it (and I've been yelling it from the rooftops myself), that I'll just give you all of them
