Wow. That defensive player had to have known that he didn't tag the runner. Very smart for the BR to keep running th 1B. That's quite a mess. Communication, communication, communication.

Oversliding the Base...ummmmm Plate!

You can get in touch with any of the board members (Jim, Mitch, Mike Q) and they can give you info. Also, what part of Louisiana are you in? One of our UICs books Grand Slam there.

@GAS1124, I'll be there week 2 - be sure to introduce yourself.

That is a rule that most coaches and sometimes umpires too, get wrong... mostly because they're a former player or a coach and they haven't been taught the proper rule. As Maven said, when the runner changes direction, he re-establishes his base bath. Therefore, he has a new 3 foot line for his established base path.

Some say it's a foreign substance, some say it's not. However, it is illegal. And yes, I love the "What? I didn't do anything" act. The Yankees pitcher was suspended for 10 games for having it on his neck Thanks to whoever added the video. In real time, I didn't have the benefit of his words being blurred out.

In tonight's Brewers vs. Braves game in Atl, Will Smith (pitcher for Brewers) was ejected because he had pine tar on his right forearm... A LOT of pine tar. Freddie Gonzalez noticed something on his arm, goes to ask PU, and all 4 umpires gather near the mound to look. Jim Joyce looks at it, touches pitcher's arm and just ejects him in a very calm manner. Smith is beyond pissed, and starts dropping the F bomb - at Freddie? At the umpires? Who knows, but why would you be yelling "That's F'in BS!" when you've got a foreign substance on your pitching arm? Your browser does not support iframes.

Bryce Harper is a douche bag who takes no responsibility for his actions. Last year, when they were playing in Atlanta, he was pissed about something (imagine that) , and walked around the PU and swiped his foot across the "A" behind the umpire, completely pissing off every Atlanta fan. He was later shown denying that he did it. REALLY? It was only replayed about 100 times on the CF screen as well as on TV for the viewers at home. He's disrespectful and arrogant. Go Marvin Hudson!

2 funny things this week. 12u game on Sunday, I've got dish and my countdown timer starts to go off. In the last 10 seconds, it beeps every second. The last 5 seconds, it speeds up and beeps twice every second. As it gets near the end, the catcher says "Are you about to explode?" which is funny because it does remind me of a bomb timer (only those that I've heard on TV!) I just laugh and say "No, but we are at the end of game time." Tonight, filling in on an 8u game and I'm BU (thankfully). Just as we're about to have the first pitch, F3 bends over and I think he's tying his shoe, but he's just pushing up his pants leg to his knees. The coach says "Are you OK?" and he looks up, waves him off and says "Don't worry, it's nothing major - I'm just getting my swag on!"

Well.... @ricka56, while you might THINK that some of those statements are true, here is something that IS true. You're kids should be "YOUR" kids You're dog should be "YOUR" dog It's OK if you sit down to pee - especially if you're a woman. And even then, we sometimes squat because that's how our mamas raised us!
-
I'll just have to go with the prime time reference, because if I don't have my shirts altered, it looks like I'm ready for bedtime (as most shirts are at my knees).
-
OMG - a chigger will make you miserable. And they don't like to get you on the arm or the ankle. Oh no... They like to go to the spots that you don't even want to think about.
-
Being a woman who has to wear umpire shirts that are made for men, I have all of my shirts altered. It helps if you take the shirt and your CP with you so they will know exactly how you want them to fit and how long you want them to be.

I was wondering how looked. When I had a foul ball hit my forearm a few years ago, it looked like that. Measured 4" bigger than my left arm by the time I got home. My biggest problem was the hematoma left behind that wouldn't go away. After 2 weeks of the fracture healing, they had to slice it open and clean it out and finish with 5 stitches. The saying "chicks dig scars and bruises" did nothing for me. Prayers for a quick recovery so you'll be ready for Cooperstown.

That's ridiculous! And that TD needs a punch in the face.

I can completely relate! Yesterday, I was PU and we had the usual yapping over the usual stuff. The one that got me was a ball hit to the OF, and my partner has the ball so I've got the touch at 3rd and runner scores. Plate is a mess, I call time to clean it and then a dad starts telling the catcher that the runner missed 3rd and they need to appeal it. (Coach has no clue what they're doing). I put the ball in play, they appeal which takes too long because everyone is confused about what they're doing and why. I make the safe signal and I hear a mom say "Oh give me a break, it's not like he (meaning BU) was actually watching that!!!" I said out loud to no one in particular "Actually that's MY call and I WAS watching and he DID touch 3rd." Yeah, I didn't hear anything else from that side. Meanwhile, she went back to pushing her baby in the stroller behind the bleachers where I'm sure she had a better view of the plays than my partner and I did. I don't normally address fans, but I sure felt better after that.

Good decision!
-
True, but we don't - never have. So if my partner makes the call and verbalizes it, that's not a good thing. And now we have an umpire quoting a rule that's not a rule.
-
@Tksjewelry, I worked with a guy a few weeks ago who actually said those words out loud when the runner didn't slide. He said "Runner is out - he didn't slide!" Uggh! Sometimes, it's just hard to hide the laughs and the disbelief.
-
That sux. My HS season was a great one, and some crazy stuff in 12U this weekend makes me miss HS ball even more.
-
True! He was working hard to intimidate me, but it didn't work - never does. And I have no respect for a jackwagon who wants to yell across the field. He was definitely the one looking like a fool shouting nonsense.

It's "HIRE" not "higher"

Championship 12U AAA game, R2 and I'm in C. Sharp hit ball to SS and F6 throws it to 1B, but throw pulls F3 off the bag at the very end. I loudly call and signal "SAFE - OFF THE BAG!" 1B coach sees the signal, but for some reason, the runner turns and heads back down towards home, going to his dugout thinking he's out. The 1B coach initially says nothing, and by now the ball has been thrown back to F1. Defense realizes it and starts yelling "Throw to 1st!" and he does, meanwhile OHC is yelling "GO BACK!" and he does but he gets tagged out and I call him out. The OHC goes ballistic screaming at me from across the field (never a good idea) telling me "That's not the rule, that's not the rule!" WHAT? I said "Coach, I made the safe call and signal, he went back to the dugout on his own, so now he's off the base and he's out." He keeps yelling, so I retreat towards A while he's yelling since R2 scored, and coach is still screaming "You need to know the rules!" I say "Coach, he's out..." he yells again and I said "He's still out!" Coach said "It's your job to judge whether he's making an effort to advance to 2nd." I worked hard not to laugh as I said "Coach, 2nd base is THAT way" as I'm pointing towards 2nd, and I said "I never said he was advancing to 2nd - I simply called him out for being off the bag after he'd safely reached 1B." Just when I think I've heard it all, something new comes up.
-
I agree with @Mad Max about only 2 out and I don't care if they have face masks or not. The last coach who insisted he could have as many players out as he wanted regrets his stubbornness about me saying it was a safety issue. When I turned my back during a pitching change, he let 6 kids come out to swing the bat, and suddenly 1 kid is screaming and blood is pouring from his mouth and he's got 3 permanent teeth lying on the ground. Any on deck batter on my field is going to be in the on deck circle, because I've seen some crazy warm up pitches!

I'll be there.
