  1. I knew he knew that, but I'm a little surprised that you didn't know that I knew he knew. (It's sunny today and I get to close up the shop early to go play. I'm just giddy.)

    Homeplate Collision

    Without possession, 2-22; with, 8-4-2.

Can a NFHS player make a "play" without possession?

    Legal or not

Consistent enforcement is the only tool we have to change stupid rules.
  5. It worked. Your crew wins.
  6. Calvinball rule 1.2: Any player can declare a new rule at any point of the game. The player may do this audibly or silently depending on what zone (refer to rule 1.5) the player is in.
  7. Or, it's the first game of their season.
  8. Yep, I had a heel spur and it's brutal and there's little hope of getting better this season without some sort of professional intervention. I scheduled an appointment with a podiatrist, who sent me for an x-ray, then based on the that, gave me a shot (18 year-old Dewars is what I asked for but that didn't happen) in the affected heel which didn't hurt (me, anyway) and the relief was immediate. Then the doctor sold me a couple pair of the correct insoles (not precisely the same as what may be sold at the running shop) and I now think I have six or seven pair. They are remarkable! No recurrence. And, they are less expensive (not covered by my insurance) through the doctor than that available from the running shop. Bottom line: see your doctor.
  9. The F6 'looked' like he had the ball to his chest and he came across the bag 'simulating' the pivot on a double play. I'm pretty sure in NFHS games it's still legal for fielders to feint to 1B, just not in-contact pitchers. (My apologies; I'm in a rainy-day funk.) It's not the 'feint to 1B' by the F6 that is being discussed. It's the fake 'catch and tag' of 2B making the runner believe he was under the auspices of the Force Play Slide Rule Ya know, because we give HS kids that much credit OK, I'll dial it down. I'm picturing F6 having joined both hands at his chest while coming [running, dragging a foot] across 2B as if he were the front end of a DP. "That's nothing!" with or without a feint throw to 1B other than a learning opportunity for all concerned, including perhaps even me. It is, after all is said and done, still Calvi, I mean, NFHS ball. I sure hope I never see the day NFHS prohibits the use of bats which contribute so much to the inherently dangerous environment of a baseball game. Sorry, my dial doesn't seem to be working very well in this drizzle.

  11. Were there base coaches present in the video?
  12. What did the video show that lead the group to believe F6 "simulated" the start of a DP? 2-22-2 says a fake tag "simulates a tag" but not a DP.
  13. You say, "potato" and I say, "tomato." Let's call the whole thing off.
  14. Despite she-who-must-be-obeyed being a tigris Fanaticus, I would have kept him at bat. His reactions were not that of someone who had received ball four (start trotting to 1B) but rather that of someone who fouled off the ball (sticking around the plate).

    Bat Rolling

Somebody copy and past the Note at the end of baseball NFHS 1-3-2, please.

    Bat Rolling

I believe there is some real legalities involved in modifying a non-wood bat.
  17. Great job by U1.

    A Little Help

For NFHS games: 1. Call time was correct. 2. TOI was correct.
  19. I like it. I like it a lot! Mikulik, just another Pete Rose wanna-be-gone-bad. The west coast must be suffering the effects of climate change much more so than the rest of us.
  20. Baseball myth #2.

    FPSR Fed & NCAA

Check NFHS CB 2.32.2A: to wit; sliding away from the fielder is legal.
  22. I am totally befuddled with the same stuff my nine year-old granddaughter takes with a grain of salt. I have more technology in my pocket than in any aircraft I ever flew. Befuddling, indeed. I don't do Cooperstown, but I do do beer. (There, I said do do.) Buy me a tall one, drink it while it's cold, then set the bottle near an empty chair. Perhaps that night's baseball banter will channel through to me.
  23. JR manual had a piece about viable appeals during "relaxed" and "unrelaxed" action.
  24. A court order prevents me being in possession of any sharp objects and I'm no longer interested in using any liquid adhesives since that unfortunate airplane glue incident in flight school. (Think you've been lost? Try being lost at Mach1.3!)
