  1. Same type of play happened in MLB last year. Nothing to do but just shake your head...
  2. They are beautiful...I might have to take on a project like this.
  3. That looks great! What did you use for the primer coat?
  4. Like Jocko said, gravel and concrete don't mix, some is going to get hurt. Always err on the side of caution. Safety is the top priority.
  5. Kind of reminds me of this play with Brandon Phillips
  6. So he's trying to make his player feel better by making it look like you missed the call? How about he coaches his player about how NOT to get picked off next time?
  7. Ouch!
  8. Never seen that before, but as long as he is consistent with it...
  9. I'm looking to get a therma base but am not sure what size to get. According to the size chart I should get a large but I'm at the low end of the large sizes and it says size down for bases. I don't want it to be too bulky. I'm 6' about 195. Any similar proportioned gentlemen who could offer suggestions?
  10. Good point. Its pretty clear that as he is running toward the ball he slows down and then backs up. Could have easily caught that one on the fly. The whole point of the IFF rule is to not take advantage of the runners having to tag, which I think he did on that play.
  11. This is true with Rawlings too. I don't really see how the white lettering is a distraction, its so small. If they are distracted by that little tiny swoosh, they have very little chance of EVER hitting a big white baseball.

    EJ Warranted?

Was the commissioner on site? If the was I would have just talked to him quick. As for the hit in the head comment, you could have responded with something like this, "Well, (insert coach's name here), the rule book does say that when a batter offers at a pitch, even if he is hit by that pitch, then it is a strike. Now thats the end of that conversation..." That being said, had you ejected him, I don't think that would have been out of line by any means.
  13. Very intelligent play there

    obstruction at plate

how far into fair territory are we talking?
  15. Obviously, somehow YOU made the 3rd base coach try to score the winning run with one out and basically no shot at scoring. And it was surely your fault the BR (who meant absolutely nothing) made the bonehead move of trying to take 2nd base. Gotta love "fans". Well, remember, "fan" is short for fanatic (definition a person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal)
  16. I've done six games in a day before and will never do it again. Near the end, I'm not at my best, the games aren't as fun, and I just want to go home. I want to be excited to put on the gear and go umpire a game. Those massively long tourneys took that away a little bit.
  17. Was reffing some adult flag football and it was played on a small field in the outfield of a local ball diamond. There was not a fence extending from the dugout to the outfield fence and a women once drove her car out onto the field, got out and started yelling at this guy, "Did you not think I would find out about you and my sister?!" I got on the phone and called 911 because I'll be honest, I was scared.
  18. Thanks, Rolo. Do you just do your regular pants size or do you add a couple inches to the length for the plate pants?
  19. Lala

    Hello.

    Welcome!
  20. Any other experiences you all could share with Honigs tailoring the pants for you?
  21. The sad thing is that the coaches either don't see it (because they have no clue) or when they do, they don't actually coach the players on how to do it right.

    Its Official...

Practice generally starts the first week of May, 3 weeks later the games start and the season runs till the last week of July when they play the state tournament at Principle Park where the Iowa Cubs play in Des Moines. So the majority of the season is played while the student-athletes are on summer break.

    Thanks dumbdumb
  24. Players have off days... Unfortunately, so do umpires. It's part of the game. When working 1 man, as long as you are hustling and trying to get in the best position possible to make some tough calls, thats all you can ask.
  25. That puts a smile on my face. Great call. I enjoyed that one too. Why do the announcers think the batter RUNNER can just stand there? I believe it was Bobby Valentine in the booth on that call and at the end he sounds flabbergasted as he says they called him out for interference because he just stood in the box. Yes, Bobby, they did, and they were right.
