So we have a 'projected catcher' come out the next inning for one pitch, then the coach puts his 'real' guy back there... What a speed up rule! Haha

Had this same scenario happen last night in my HS game. Throw to 2B from CF was bobbled by F6 and the R3 tagged up and touched HP between the time the F6 bobbled the ball and secured the out. I had to remind my PU to score the run if he crossed before the out was made. He looked at me like a deer in headlights.

As wrong as some may think this is, I do all I can to prevent an illegal substitute from entering the game. If I notice that the CR would not be legal, I don't accept the CR as he is not official until accepted. This happens to me 4-5 times a year and I have never had a defensive coach balk at it. On another note, if the CR does slip by, he may not necessarily be an illegal substitute as he could be considered a pinch runner for all intents and purposes. Side question: is it possible for CRs to be unnanounced?

The BU won't see OBS here if the ball is never thrown to 2B. Modification: the BU shouldn't see it. His eyes are still on the ball... In the pitchers hand... At the mound.

Please don't penalize or award a ball in any code unless the pitcher decides to delay the game for more than 20 seconds...20 ... LOOONNGGGG.... Seconds. If your game has a pitch clock, go by that. Other than that, just reset and play baseball.

A one base award IS MANDATORY in FED if you call OBS. That's what the entailing discussion has gone to - the inherent delay in our mechanics needed in FED to have all info before calling OBS in this particular situation.

Yes. I don't remember which code had this described in a comment or case play but I know I've seen one.

End result of discovery of an illegal substitute is most definitely relevant to this OP situations. Your state can do what it wants, but restricting a player on anything other than being an illegal substitute is not in the FED rule book nor is it in the 'State Adoptions' area of the rule book either. So don't quote FED rules when fighting that battle.

In the OBP formula, reaching on error is counted as an AB but doesn't factor into anything in the numerator. In essence, you were supposed to be out, so you don't get credit for it.

Bet you haven't had that argument as much as I have argued with people that getting on base by error hurts your OBP

NCAA and JUCO don't have restrictions. I'm talking FED. The only time we can restrict a PLAYER in HS rules is if he is an illegal substitute. Players can be warned or ejected... That's it. One exception only, and that is an illegal substitute. 3-3-1 gives us no option to restrict players. It only addresses restricting coaches. That's not picking boogers... That is just reading.

Restriction is only an option for coaches and illegal substitutes...

All codes/levels, EJ immediately. Don't make the next umpire have to deal with this crap.... That's how you send the message... And it doesn't have to be a big hoopla, hook 'em ejection. Just ask the coach who is replacing that player in the lineup/field.

I agree based on NCAA rules.

One umpire on this thread has stuck to his no-call in FED. One other originally said no OBS and has considered that it could be. The calling umpire in the video is calling by NCAA rules so his interpretation is out regarding FED. I would bet on the fact that FED wants this as OBS, and is more easily defended by the rules than is any other scenario. OBS in FED is not just denying access. It still encompasses hindering or altering the path of the runner. Just some food for thought.

In FED, this is a no-brainer OBS call. The 'fair side access to the plate' is an excuse. F2 changed his positioning and did not have possession of the ball and the runner had no foresight to see that lane changed. This is an easy OBS in FED

I have a batter hit by a pitch, immediate dead ball. Return the runner, keep the batter in the box, and add a ball to the count assuming the pitch wasn't a strike.

CCA page 112 says that PU has all overthrows when we start with R1 only EXCEPT when the crew has rotated in which case, U1 takes all overthrows. I imagine the PU has to get the fair/foul read on the infield and then bust back over to 1B for secondary responsibility of RLI and overthrows. As U1, I would make a read to either get inside or stay outside with the BR to 2B depending on where the overthrow goes in relation to 2B.

Yes once a pitch is thrown to the next batter then the one who was out for the illegal bat is legalized in the lineup. My point was that there was someone in the lineup that was still skipped and typically that guy will just jump back up there at some point so he doesn't miss a whole lineup go-around.

Odds are the offense is still BOO with the next hitter so defense should just wait for the next guy to complete his AB

The second response is the same as a chirp about a pitch. Ignore it unless it 1) takes away from the game at play or 2) it's accompanied with some major demonstration that is showing you up. Easy to shut down in HS. No response from the OP situation honestly. I answered the question and that was it. If he keeps on, I go down my IA(W/R)E

No... NCAA and HS rules both still allow a fake to 3B (which encompasses the '31' move that everyone knows and loves). And the pitcher is allowed to do a jump-spin, jab-step, step and throw to 1B for a pickoff move. As always, it is illegal for him to feint these moves to 1B as he (the pitcher) has not disengaged the rubber with a bona fide step back with the pivot foot.

Yes. If rules dictate it, we need to follow it. That is an easy case of negligence.
