  1. So lets try this.... If I were to just simplify, Pitcher is constantly throwing to first, even when there is no real chance to retire the runner due to him not being off the bag, is there anything that can be done about that? (get rid of that nasty T word that gets everyones knickers in a knot. I'm not looking for gramatical advice or more practical words to use, looking for a yes or no).... the answer I am getting here is no.... deal with it. I thank you for your input everyone
  2. I was watching a 17y/o AA game last night in the 3rd the pitcher was struggling to find the zone (in fairness it did seem inconsistent but hard to tell from where I was) The pitcher became very frustrated after a called ball 4. Batter trots off to first, and the pitcher starts chirping at the PU about the zone. Pitcher is told to knock it off, and coach is told to rein in his pitcher or there will be an ejection. The next 8 throws are to first base in an "attempt" to pick off the runner before the first pitch crosses the plate. on the last throw the runner wasn't even off the bag at first. My question here is at what point (if any) and how do you shut down this kind of behavior as the pitcher is somewhat making a travesty of the game here.yes, this is posted in another forum... just seeking input
  3. Call time, make it right, put R1 on 2 take a moment to "educate" your partner on mechanics and when a coach comes out to start a SH*# storm, tell him your partner misunderstood your signal and it won't happen again as you have now "educated" him. If coach is persistant explain what a foul tip is and let him either go or hang himself.
  4. Seems like a nice cut and dry situation. Good on you for not having to have the last word, nothing constructive can come from being witty, smart assed or just plain rude to someone who no longer matters because they are no longer in the game. All you can do is dig a hole for yourself, turn around and walk away. good job
  5. I would sy you went 1 warning too far personally, nothing good ever comes from having to repeat yourself more than once to someone who obviously is not listening. Having said that the important thing is that you dumped him. At many of the levels I do after I give that second warning I will physically turn and walk away, I find it makes a very clear point that the discussion is over and a lot of times they drop it, if begrudgingly.... if they don't they were only out there looking to be tossed anyhow.
  6. Kinda sorta unrelated to actual topic, but you speak the truth brother.....
  7. I don't care if it is a 10-u game, the second a coach thinks its a good idea to bring rules onto my diamond to show me I am wrong, he gets a warning to get it off my diamond and if he isn't turned around in about a flat second, he will then know bringing a rule book onto my field is unacceptable. (especially after having told him twice to knock it off as you did) Understand I don't say to the coach this is my diamond, I only use it here as a point of emphasis. Perfectly good dump in my book. Then again, all I tcall is OBR games up here in the great white north and I am totally unfamilliar with FED and NCAA rules sets... I just goes with the contxt i understand...;)
  8. Better yet, pick it up, dust it off, smile a big SH*# eating grin and say "seems you dropped this coach"
  9. Obstruction is the act of a fielder who while not in possession of the ball and not in the act of fielding a ball, impedes the progress of any runner (in this case the BR) If a fielder is about to recieve a thrown ball and if the ball is in flight directly toward and near enough to the fielder so he must occupy his position to recieve the ball he may be considered "in the act of fielding the ball." It is entirely up to the judgement of the umpire as to whether a fielder is in the act of fielding a ball. Straight out of the PBUC manual.... hope that answers your question
  10. Just got my 2012 MLBUM from Evans a week or so ago, they are back on sale $10
  11. At 36 years of age my mom came out to one of my games a couple years ago (my car had broke down, was in the shop and it was an out of town game) I was calling a 15y/o AAA game. She was horrified, she got to hear all the nasty comments none of us ever hear on the field, she told me she was NEVER coming to another one and I could just take her car if that ever happened again
  12. Does your association have a board of directors? That would seem like the only real recourse you would have. I understand what it's like having assigners that are asshats, it's pretty infuriating and humiliating. Big difference here is I have access to more than one "gig" locally and have the luxury of not having to work for that association if I don't want to. Sounds like a pretty solid EJ to me, only piece of advice i could possibly offer is don't try to have the last word saying things like "that's fine", you may as well have said "actually this is MY field right now" which needlessly escalates the situation. It's a nit picky thing, but perhaps coach wouldn't have followed through had you not challenged him back after the EJ. Once they are gone, don't even acknowledge them they are already tossed, nothing more you can do except start digging a hole for yourself
  13. That's a dirty stick, no clean spot on it.. ring him up, carry on, give the offensive coach a little extra rope before you consider tossing him for the s**tstorm he is about to bring
  14. No problem with glasses with the possible exception of Elton John circa 1970s style glasses...
  15. While the BR isn't explicitly "charging the mound" he had no business going to the areas you have described. Sitting here I am leaning towards an EJ for unsportman like conduct, but having an understanding of what if anything else had happened previously to that situation might make that descision a lot easier.
  16. Doctor, my brain hurts...... youtube posting said this is not ficiton.... so many things are so very, findimentally wrong.... I especially like the calling strikes before the ball is even in the catchers mitt.
  17. I was the lucky recipient of a foul to the inner thigh myself last week and it was only 15 year olds.... Still hurts, still purple seriously considering those wonderful hex pants people talk about... don't want one from any of the adult leagues i call I fear I wouldn't be able to walk for a week
  18. I can't speak for any other rule sets, but for OBR catch and carry goes a bit like this.... "If a fielder after catching a fly ball falls down in the dugout, or falls into a dugout, bench, stands or any other out-of-play territory while in possession of the ball, the base runner(s) shall be entitled to advance one base and the ball shall be dead" from PBUC Umpire Manual
  19. In my little world (and it really is a sadly small one *sigh*), ANY attempt by anyone to demonstrate is an automatic trip to the parking lot. I have become a lot more patient the last year or two, but that is a non negotiable. Both umpires have the same authority to eject a coach or player, if your partner lacks the sack or the just cause to do so, then dump him yourself if you think that is an ejectable offense.
  20. I've gotten myself to the point now where I ask myself this question befoere I toss anyone.... Is this really worth the paperwork? Stick to your zone, you know it best, despite what the batter thinks. Develop a thicker skin because no one likes to be called out and it's always easier to blame someone else for your own mess up than look at yourself, therefor the batter will always blame you, as will his fans, coaches and team mates. Learn to zone out the chirping, it can be difficult, no one likes to be criticized and it's hard to ignore when we hear it, but practice makes perfect. A smart player will realize when he is being given enough rope to hang himself, and the rest will eject themselves with such zeal no doubt will remain as to wether or not to toss.
