  1. He probably cleared it off because he wouldnt be able to see that part of the bag that was covered? which was most likely the 1st base side of the bag. Or it could have been natural instinct to do it. If I'm BU and second base has dirt in such a way as to impede my vision of a play, I'm cleaning it off and avoiding a possible bad call and ensuing *&^*& storm. If my association gigs me for that, they can in turn answer how to deal with a play at the same base, in which I couldnt tell if the runner was touching it with his hand cause the dirt was piled up from a previos slide. cant see the forrest for the trees.
  2. " Pay for another Ump"
  3. WOW. i didnt pay attention, went back and looked at Vince, everyones gettin or is old.
  4. Is that recent? cause he's 70.
  5. high enough doesnt matter, it has to have a "discernible" arc.
  6. I think J/R has a problem with the appeal, thats why they wrote it that way. Someone take the quiz and see what it says.

  8. Starting this fall, athletes and coaches will be subject to new rules designed to discourage unsportsmanlike behavior, the organization that oversees high school sports in New Jersey announced Wednesday. Under a policy developed by the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association and the state Attorney General's Office and its Division on Civil Rights, officials will enforce rules designed to crack down on harassing conduct related to race, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, or religion. The new rules, which will apply to all 433 public-, parochial-, and private-school members of the NJSIAA, will require officials to report this conduct to the association. The state organization may investigate the incident and notify the state for possible further investigation.

    Fake Tag

Nothing in OBR - but if the fake tag causes the runner to get hurt, your next batter, or the guy that threw the tag is getting one in the ear hole when he bats.
  13. Was the mild concussion diagnosed by a doctor?
  14. either no cup or in serious need of a restroom.
  15. I'd have to agree with you on that.
  16. I saw me one. My son had a soccer game in Wall township NJ on Sunday, Smitty was there, so I watched a couple innings. Indicator in his right hand, calling strikes with it and pointing to first with right hand on ball 4. Also appeared to be down on one knee behind the catcher, his head was even with the catchers. Uniform was a little dumpy.
  17. Badges? Badges? We dont need no stinking badges.
  18. MST - Mine are spit shined also, so good in fact that they could pass a basic training inspection. I enjoy nothing more than working a fully artificial field.
  19. I'd never be able to do this for fear of destroying the shine on my rear shoe.
  20. Thats good, that extra 5 can go toward wear and tear of plate gear, an excess of lost water weight etc.....
  21. I'm torn; due to the age of the players and our need to be vigilant when it comes to player safety at that level, and spirit of the game. If a player carelessly throws a bat and takes out a defensive player, I'm not sure how I would have reacted. I may have killed it also, not sure. God at 12 you would hope all the coaches would agree, but we know how they are. Could you have rule 9'ed them here?
  22. I think sitting on a bucket in the 3rd or 1st base dugout gives you the best position to call balls and strikes.
  23. The main reason behind the balk rule is "deception". I can see this causing trouble in games. Also, he must step ahead of the throw, I see that causing the biggest problem with this rule, cause if that arm is in any way in the throwing motion while that leg is in the air, I'm balking him. I'm with MST - Is it worth it?
  24. MST - I can see your point, center fielder bitching about a call at the plate, loud enough for the worold to hear. Yep he'd go.
