  1. All coaches should be forced to take Umpire training. Anyone who runs a league should be forced to sign a document stating they will back the umpires in situations like this.
  2. I hate the use of the acronym and or the wording normally associated with FPSR. If you slide it must be legal. Each rule set has different rules around sliding, learn the ones for the ruleset under which you are operating under. There is nothing that states you must slide if forced. All rule sets state "You must slide legally". You can also stop and give up, vear off is the defender has tagged the base ETC..............
  3. If he disengages properly, he goes from Pitcher to fielder, when he reengages he goes from fielder to pitcher. You sir are correct in your contention. The guy you worked with should be further instructed.
  4. Probably this: Pitchers shall take signs from the catcher while in contact with the pitcher’s plate. Rule 8.01 Comment: Pitchers may disengage the rubber after taking their signs but may not step quickly onto the rubber and pitch. This may be judged a quick pitch by the umpire. When the pitcher disengages the rubber, he must drop his hands to his sides. Pitchers will not be allowed to disengage the rubber after taking each sign.
  5. A. Never draw a box - because what you said happened will happen. B. He complained about the players being up to far in the box, thats a judgement call, he can't so you shut it down, immediately. C. Good on the team warnings. With one caveat, you would have had to toss one or both if they would have talked to each other, too broad. "if I witness any poor conduct, foul language etc. from coaches or players I will eject". or something similar.
  6. Here we go again.
  7. if he is moving his foot cause the mound is killing his mechanics I dont care where he stands as long as he's in contact with the rubber.
  8. It's 8U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Give the kid a break anyone complains, give em the "really?" look.
  9. I like the tone, basically "Hey, I'm biased to begin with, but the umpires are bad, and cost my school...."
  10. Thanks, thats a visit coach.
  11. get 3 other umpires, go to his next 5 games and call out each and every one of his mishaps. Loudly. Bring signs, fire up the coaches, etc.... He wont do it again
  12. If it hits the knob of the bat while the pitcher is engaged and has not balked on a Tuesday then its foul. If we were in Germany you'd have to make my bunk.
  13. Judgement call if there is 1 Ump or 47 Umps. Very hard to make that call from behind the plate. Experience helps in determining if the runner has interferred. Sometimes its blatant, sometimes not.
  14. Rub some vagasil on them or have someone call the WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAmbulance for you.
  15. I agree with just about every comment on here. One thing though - talk to every ump in the league, make sure you all do the same thing or provide the same umps to his games all the time. Issue warnings and toss him. Let me guess, his kids the best player in the state/world and will play for the Yankees. I woudl tell him he's "That Guy".
  16. Also - Case play from PBUC> Runners at second and third, two out. Batter grounds to the first baseman, who fields the ball and runs to first base, arriving at the bag just ahead of the runner (a bang-bang play but clearly the first baseman arrived first). The runner collides with the fielder at the base, both falling to the ground. Contact, or impact with the ground knock the ball loose. Umpire calls the runner safe, and allows the two runs to score, saying that the fielder lost control of the ball. What is the correct call? PBUC answer: This play almost needs to be seen. However, the way you write it I would call the runner out. The reason; the 1B had possession of the ball and once he stepped on 1B the batter-runner is out, as long as he is not bobbling the ball as he steps on the bag.
  17. You Should state what rule set you play under. Several things - You said "as a result of the runner running into here". That act and if its legal/illegal will probably be a deciding factor. Next, HTBT before you get the answer you need.
  18. The pitcher wil learn in time to keep his temper and drill the next batter. After which the showboating usually stops.
  19. I'm sure the tobacco he had in his pocket was utilized during the game too. Idiot.
  20. when you have the rules, use the rules. When you have facts, use the facts. When you have neither pound your fist.
  21. too many warnings.
  22. I do the same thing as Blue does. Let's em know they are stupid if or when they figure it out.
