Dear TD, The umps are soley responsible during the game, go count the money at the concession stand. If you continue to undercut our decisions we will have to ask that you station yourself near the field to help us rule on every pitch, play and award, discussion that occurs. Please keep in mind that we will rule using your advice and that will most likey end up playing some games under protest, upon hearing said protest and the fact that an unqualified tourney director was ruling on the field no one will return to your huge money making venture. Not to metion you will have no good umpires, EVER. PS, Your kid stinks

You should have went to the lineup card, ejected the pitcher and the 4 batter. That would have been awesome to see. 1 point - why wasnt something done when it first happened? I understand you let the coach handle it, but from reading the above, maybe a bench warning woudl have been a good thing to end it all immediately.

ART. 6 . . . No umpire may be replaced during a game unless he becomes ill or is injured. His right to disqualify players or to remove nonplayers for objecting to decisions or for unsportsmanlike conduct is absolute. Ejections will be made at the end of playing action.

The coach was ejected because he evidently cannot follow simple instructions.

In NJ all Athletes who wear prescrip glasses, must wear "sports glasses". So they come in the sunglass variety also. Do other states have this rule? and if so has anyone enforced it? In NJ, it also states the Umpire cant be liable for not enforcing.

Sit on a bucket in the entrance to the dugout, evidently this is the best location to call any pitch or play. If that is otherwise occupied, 130 feet up the 3rd base line in DB territory works just as well.

Maven - Agreed. If it was the HC that came out and said it he'd be fine, add the assistant who isnt allowed to speak and he's done. Maybe I didnt get that point across properly.

All the travel coaches are one stop from coahing the Yankees. All the kids that play travel ball are the best ever, they will all be drafted out of highschool and make millions in the pros.

Hats for bats, keep bats warm.

A. He's the assistant B. He said the word "you" thats making it personal. That call was crap, crud, BS whatever is fine. as soon as he says "you" Im running him. HC - probably not.

Reminder to enforce the "on the field without a helmet" if this is Fed.

Answer: Its a freshman game, deal with the coaches learn from it and move on.

make each team give the league $200.00 for the "ejection pool" and $100.00 for the "appeal pool" in cash at the beginning of the year. Every ejection costs 50 or 100 bucks and goes toward the end of season Umpire party. run out of ejection money go to the appeal pool, if you run out before the end of the year, you either add more $$ or forfeight the rest of the games. Hit em where it hurts.

reminds me of this one - This was a special tournament held at the end of the season. Coach - That hit the plate (walking towards me) Me - yes it did (called time here, VP of league behind me doing scoreboard) Coach - then its foul ( getting loud) Me - no its not, go back to the box. Coach - your an idiot if you think its a fair ball (or somethign similar, but he called me an idiot) Me - calmly - your gone, enjoy the rest of the evening. ( I proceeded to clean the plate) Coach - why because I'm right Me - no because you called me an idiot. Discussion over please leave. Coach - (to VP) Do you believe this? VP - yep - you called him an idiot, we'll discuss your punishment at the next meeting. At that time my wife was on the board (the reason why I was doing the game), so when that discussion came up she recused herself - but enjoyed the meeting and fille dme in afterward. The umpires in the room told him how wrong he was and suggested he read a rule book. He was read the riot act. Since it was the end of the year he was told anything the following year and he'd be gone for good (if he wanted/was picked to coach again). I've saved the best for last. This was a T-ball tourney for the kids in the league. They get 5 pitches to hit and if they can't the T is brought in for them, they get 3 outs or bat the entire order which ever comes first. His son was the batter. I coached his other son in football and he still wont talk to me.

MST is correct as usual. Hand goes up immediatley on the 1st one. I would not be instructing these kids, that's for the coaches, he can ask why you balked him. What was the PU doing during all of this? Why wasnt he calling them?

My father handed down to me his Lionel set from 1947, mint condition, I have all the boxes, manuals etc... Kids (youngest 5) are finally old enough not to break it, so it will be set up for Christmas this year. -
AYF (I think they use NFHS rules) 3rd and 5/ QB rolls to the right, running back in front of him. running back is 1 yard over line of scrimmage - corner comes up to attack QB/getting blocked by running back - QB throws the ball and hits the running back in the back of the helmet while he is engaged with corner - ref calls interference. Im thinking it s a judgement call but no idea.

they need to know the following: Out - maybe as this is also signaled Strike - maybe cause this is also signaled - and if your batting its becuase the umpire stinks and is out to get you. Safe - see above - if its your runner you like the call, if not those damn lazy umpires cheated again. Ball - if no signal consider it a ball - if your team is batting, move the bucket you'll get a better view. Foul - signaled - this can be good or bad for you depending but Im getting rediculous in my write up because its Friday. That's a balk - you'll know it when hit happens. against you - umpire was wrong - for you the umps are the best you had all year. Your'e done - look for a big arm swing. can you pre pay for a hotdog for me? sometimes they run out by the time I get to the stand. and perhaps good bye. See above Additional words or sayings, nice to know's: "get in the box" also signaled, usually with an annoyed look on the umpires face. I understand your Joe Torre and this 12 year old rec league game is equivalent to the world series but no one likes to watch 12 year olds do anything for 3 hours on a beautiful day. "that's enough" signaled - usualy done when the umpires are picking on you for no reason. "hit the shower" and in some cases "please hit the shower, no, really you stink". look for big arm swing Int - Youll know it becuase the runner will be out - and the other team will be unhappy Obs - you'll know it because the runner will advance and you wont think he should have because the umpire is unfair and the other team is clapping. Easy to learn Sorry it's Friday

I have whatever money my wife gives me. -
base and bag are defined differently in one the the interp manuals, i remember it from a course i took, and the instructor discussed it at length, probably due to the above ref: If the impact of a runner breaks a base loose from it's position, no play can be made on that runner at that base if he reached that base safely." I'll look later, not at home.
-
The bag is not the base, the base can never move but the bag can. In the event of the bag moving the runner must stay near the base, if they chase the bag and in the judgement of the umpire they are out, then they are out.
