  1. I'm thinking catch -22. Stay out of it and do what you did. Maybe next time you have a game with that kid, ask him about another rule. If he gets it right start grooming him for PBUC. If he makes it to the bigs, maybe he'll slip you some cash.
  2. Nice- hopefully he will learn his lesson.
  3. Yes toss her. Did you talk to her before the game? Did you tell her what her role and your role is? Did you know she was there before the game? Does she know hw to charge runs, errors etc???? Why do leagues continue to put people in authority; coaches, board members, book keepers et. They have 8,000 courses on how to act as parents and it continues. Parents should be moved 300 feet from every field and provided a tv to watch from. Or have their mouths taped shut. Parents ruin kids athletics.
  4. he is out for abandoning. Tell the coach he's got enough problems on his team to keep him busy rather than worrying about 1 run.
  5. You fixed it. But in plays like that he needs to be loud on the out call, regardless of wind. Just like watching for tag ups and not hearing the call from your partner.
  6. I just tell people their needs to be a force at third and less than 2 outs. I don't get into the ordinary effort thing with them.
  7. Thats a good story poppy - how are we to act in that situation? Do you honor his "not a true" appeal? do you do what you did? Do you tell him to tell his coach? Although you pointed it out to him, most kids that age wouldnt know what to do in that sit. and if we honor it, you know its gonna blow up. Do you say, "so the ball is live - do you know what to do?" do you keep probing him until he appeals? Love to get some take aways on this.
  8. No pink, but I will wear fuscia, pink clashes with my eyes. Seriously, we did buy all pink 2 years ago for the "Cancer awareness" games and tourney's, we havent been asked since to wear them. Wonder why?? Maybe I'll inquire. Thanks for the reminder.
  9. I call time put my finger on my lips and say "shhhhhh" at that level. But, then again, I wont do that level cause I hate all the coaches and parents.
  10. but it was an infield fly. Fly ball to the infield.
  11. Not providing Sunflower seeds to the umpires Not providing locker rooms Not providing massage service after games. Crappy hotdogs
  12. after you warn him to not throw the bat.
  13. Bags are in fair territory how in the hell could that be foul? Maybe he said "it's Dixie's rule" Dixie being the 87 year old crack head that made up the rule 30 years ago when she was running the concession stand.
  14. Same one I came in at.
  15. anytime they say "you...., you're...you are ......." anytime they charge at you, threaten you, point a bat at you, draw a line, beak you, spit on you, kick dirt, lie, cheat, steal, don't pay you, wear ugly socks.
  16. Now all you need is Pat Boone to sing to you and you would have the trifecta. Good job!!!!
  17. No hitter with an ejection is muchbetter.
  18. Sounds like he is over reacting and should be acting more professionally. Not sure what level and age of players, but in FED the batter is getting tossed for swearing. if he is keeping your batter in the box for not moving, that's what we are told to follow and it's his judgement, If I see a heater inside, and they turn their back, they usually get first, most of the time you can tell if they are "taking one for the team" again depends on level of play. As far as ownig up to a bad pitch call, he's most likely "making up" for his decorum. Maybe, I have to know the guy. I mention the rule about moving on a HBP at the plate meeting, I've even gone as far as telling them to remind the parents, as they dont know and cause most of the problems, these are for teams who are well know to have "over zealous parents in the stands" Our association actually pushed to have the caoaches send letters home to parents informing them of some rules.
  19. yep - both teams need to be aware. Most kids are coached to run to 1st even if they can't just to draw a possible bad throw.
  20. Great example for when we describe Spirit of the rule Vs. Rule of the game
  21. pointing out their ignorance would be well worth it.
  22. Miller Time!!!!
  23. Needed to be addressed during the game when it happened. "Coach when in live ball territory they need to have a helmet on, if they don't they will be edjected and you will be restricted to the bench." For the HR - Dead ball, go home.
  24. I do the same at games, usually all the parents know I'm an ump so they always ask me my take when a call goes against them, I always say "he made the right call". On all judgement calls. If they ask I tell them the rule, if I feel they are getting unruly and are wrong about a rule, I tell them, usually, sometimes they are so wrong I let it go because they just sound dumb, and as an ump I enjoy that. If a friend of mine is umping, and he makes a basic call, usually a clear foul ball, I sometimes will yell out "Great call BLUE!!!" Just to see him smile. As for the above when someone follows me after a game, such as the old timer above, I would have said, "I appreciate your feedback, if you would please follow me to my truck, I will show you the field diagram and all the rules around fair and foul balls. We can discuss them while I change"
  25. "nice, finish your drawing and put a point on the end cause that's the direction your going, see ya Child!!!!"
