I got it!!!! It’s to store the sleeves if you take them off mid-game! -
Smitty Pullover with Gray Shoulder question

I just turned mine inside out to try and figure. No luck. But I did notice it’s probably easier to zipper the sleeves back on if you turn the jacket inside out. 🤣🤪 -
Habit. I love scoring baseball games I attend.

Filled a square on the umpire bingo card last night. 1 out. R2,R3. I’m in “C” D3K. F2 fires to 1B, out there. F3 races home, F2 can’t handle it, ball squeaks by him. I’m on my way to 3B area as I have an over zealous R2 rounding third who’s thinking about scoring. He sees F2 gather the ball, he puts on the brakes about 15-20 down the line and starts heading back to 3rd. I’m in a good spot for the throw to third, F2 cocks the arm, and…..here comes R3, who already scored, evidently heading to his dugout, cutting right in front of F2 as he’s ready to fire to third. “WOAH… Time! (Point at the scored runner) That’s interference, (pointing to r2) you! You’re out! The cool part was, the call was so instinctual and easy to process, and not a peep from the offensive bench. The funny part was the look on my PU’s face standing flat footed 1BLX with a WTF just happened look on his face. 🤣

Smitty Pullover with Gray Shoulder question

You made me go get mine a look. I never even noticed it… Now I’m intrigued. -

Good video on that by our friend Patrick

And to my basic point of the OP...Perhaps I shouldn't have blanketly said "untucked is a bad look". That's not really what I meant. Untucked, hanging down almost to the pant inseam, flapping in the breeze, is not a good look.
-
Very different than the OP

Is @johnnyg08 referring to allowing the run the to score, or calling a runner's lane violation when the throw retires the runner? Both are inherently poor (if not outright wrong in the case of calling a violation when the throw retires the runner) interpretations of a rule. I can "sell" the time of throw call to a pissed off defensive manager, but I don't have leg (or rule) to stand on other than this asinine interp to call RLV when throw retires the runner.

Officially starting my little league umpire journey tomorrow

I always tried to envision the little guy's strike zone more like a stop sign, or oval. Where the top and bottom sides of the octagon (armpits and lower knee) are the width of the plate, and the in and out sides line up a good six inches off the outside, and a little less off the inside. If they're up, or down AND in or out, ball it. Center cut...The plate is much wider there. -
Adam can also use a defense conference.

On VERY rare occasion I've heard of JV/Varsity DH's in NJ. (95%) no lights on baseball fields. I've never seen or heard about a varsity DH

I’m seeing a mixed bag. Some teams throw their 5 and are ready in 1:20 or less, others will keep throwing until you tell them “30 seconds last one”.

I might be alone on this..But I think seeing a swing from "A" on a LHB is the easiest of all appeal calls. Sure, I'm not going to great look on a borderline check swing, and the default is "no he didn't", but, if I see a barrel out in front of a LHB's front hip from "A", there's no doubt he went.

I do not disagree. I was surprised to hear the powers that be in one of my associations recommend this approach.

Simplify it. If the pivot foot is parallel, in FED it’s the set position. Period. No exceptions. The rocker step with a parallel pivot foot is illegal. Now, I’ll tell you what some associations and chapters are doing with this “set with a rocker step” issue. Some are letting pitchers know during warmups..”Look- With that pivot foot parallel, you can’t take that rocker step to the side. We’ll allow it with no runners, but you will be balked with any runners on. No matter where they are. No matter the situation”. I’ve seen two already this year. One just angled his pivot foot to start making it a legal windup position, the other said, “I’ll just pitch from the set today”.

I’m not changing a call that I can’t get some added information from my partner. Like you said, judgement calls, you need to explain what you have. Even if deep down there’s doubt. On plays like your BI, all I can say is be assertive. Don’t be afraid to call the tough calls. Know the rule, call the tough calls, and use your rules knowledge to explain why you made the call. You’ll find it’s always easier to reference a rule and explain to a coach why you DID call something, instead of explaining to the other coach why you didn’t call something. I had one yesterday. R2, I’m in “C”. Line drive almost at my head. I elude the liner, turn, and F6 is making a shoestring catch. I get a good look at the catch about 3” off the ground, and now there’s a play back into 2B, and I call safe. Immediately the defensive is walking off the field the bench is all over it… “No way!!” and I’m thinking “uh oh… I think I kicked this”. (No excuse, but the liner to the head, a good look at the catch, and I probably got caught a little off guard by another play and rushed the call). Manager comes to the foul line under control and asks “you had that runner getting back?” I said, “I’ve got a a diving R2 getting a hand on the bag, while F4 is catching the throw, and THEN F4’s foot hitting the bag”. He gave me that inquisitive look , like ”really?” This was the second game of a DH, and through a couple conversations prior I could tell the temperament and personality of this coach, So I shrugged my shoulders a little and added. “Evidently there’s a lot of people that didn’t see it like that??.” He smiled and walked away. Each coach/ situation will dictate how you can or can’t handle these situations. And yes, your play does sound like BI.

IMO, the last great stadium quirk. I used to love all the nuances of different stadiums. Now that’s an old man minority view. It’s all about equity now. ”He lucky they’re playing here. That ball is only a HR in two other parks. “ When I hear announcers say things like this after a HR, I cringe. They’re not playing in another park😞🙄

well, they're not supposed to be impartial

No different than any other rule...Check swing comes to mind. PU says "swing" on the coach's batter. .."You can't see that, you got to get help" PU goes for help on a check swing while same coach is on defence...BU says no swing...."That's a swing...you shouldn't need help...you need to get that yourself"
