  1. Nah. Nobody from Toronto would ever hit an umpire with a thrown batting helmet.
  2. Cory Blaser on the call http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=26898523&topic_id=&c_id=mlb&tcid=vpp_copy_26898523&v=3
  3. Just completed a trade with snaptackleback. Went just as planned, I'd deal with him again!
  4. Here it is: http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=26863113&topic_id=&c_id=mlb&tcid=vpp_copy_26863113&v=3
  5. It is the norm around here, and it works for us. Before this year they were still sharing gear, but it was crap. Guess you could say we're taking baby steps.
  6. We have a storage building right at the field, which is secured but the umpires have the code. During the season we store all the gear in the building, along with game balls. When not being used it is hanging on hooks. We provide just about everything our young umpires need, all of which was bought this spring. I cleaned house this spring and got rid of stuff that had been in there literally for decades by the looks of it (my first season doing this). The league then sprung for 3 full sets of new gear this year, which includes Diamond Featherweight umpire masks, Champion P220's, and Diamond iX3 shin guards. We also provide brushes, indicators and ball bags. About the only thing the umpires are required to get on their own are protective cups. It has worked great for us. I made it part of the preseason training session we had. What to wear, how to wear it, why the mask should be worn loosely, etc. From what I've seen so far it was the right thing to do. Once the season is done, it will be brought inside, cleaned and stored properly.
  7. Sad that we live in a time where a statute such as "simple assault at a sporting event in the presence of children under the age of 16" needs to exist. I'm not disputing that it's a good law to have in place, just that it's sad it needs to exist in the first place. Idiots gotta be idiots.
  8. Cal Ripken rule set. Is there any restriction on where the manager/coach can conference with the pitcher on the 60 ft. diamond? In other words, can the conference occur on the mound? I seem to remember this conference needed to occur on the baseline closest to the dugout but I can't find any rule backing for this. I tried posting it in the Rules section but kept getting kicked out, so please move it over there if you're able. Thanks.
  9. According to Saltalamacchia in a writeup about the game, he talked with Fagan about it at the time. Fagan told him in his opinion Saltalamacchia contacted him on his follow through, not on the throw (in other words, in Fagan's opinion the throw was already gone). Saltalamacchia didn't see how that was physically possible, but dropped it because he admitted he didn't know what the ruling should be anyway. It was only later he realized the ball should have been dead but by then it was way too late to argue about it. As far as Pedroia getting hit by the ball being a "give back," the replays showed he was still in the box when the ball hit him in the helmet visor. No give back there.

    Buy bye

The absolutely stunned look on the kids face tells me he probably has been getting away with this. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Good point. Probably has. He asked what happened, I told him, he said "ok" and returned to the dugout Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD And this reaction from the coach tells me the player has been getting away with it, too. Probably surprised it took him this long to get the gate. Nice job.
  11. I upgraded my Douglas using the one on the left. You can see that it has the metal clips that is typical of a catcher's CP, rather than the plastic buckle. It was no problem for me since I just used the buckles from my existing Douglas harness and it worked perfectly. I bought the one on the left because the one on the right had not yet been released as a replacement part when I made my purchase. I imagine the one on the right is slightly cooler, but I can tell you the one on the left makes my Douglas fit perfectly. +1 on all of this. I did the exact same thing and it fits the Douglas perfectly.
  12. Probably tired of listening to Price's crap. I would think a Vanderbilt guy would be smarter than that. Rat.
  13. Now go watch the replay in the clubhouse and say you're sorry.
  14. Don't bother them with the facts. They were on a roll.
  15. I don't do it as an umpire, and I hated it as a catcher.
  16. Want to grumble on your way to the dugout? Fine, no problem. Say it walking away. Come back to say more? I don't care how Holbrook gestured. I don't know what else may have happened in this game. I don't know what Upton said or didn't say. That action alone of returning does it for me. YMMV.
  17. Maybe Farrell didn't argue because Napoli didn't so much as bat an eye when he was called out.
  18. Nice throw too, considering he double clutched it (and made Knight's job even harder).
  19. Nobody even questioned it. They went right on to the next play.
  20. Looks like Harper is learning anyway, he kept his mouth shut. He wanted to say something, but got up and left instead.
  21. Great job staying with the play through its conclusion. Don't see this every day. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=26291639&topic_id=&c_id=mlb&tcid=vpp_copy_26291639&v=3
  22. Nice call here in Red Sox/Rays today. I had it safe at full speed, but the last replay showed what a good call it was. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=26276837&topic_id=&c_id=mlb&tcid=vpp_copy_26276837&v=3
