They (stock pads) did seem pretty squishy. Then I compared them to my steel Wilson mask (also the original, stock pads after 10+ years) and those things were.... omg scary soft. By "modern era" I meant that I'm finally giving in to the more modern technology.

Thanks again to @MadMax for the very helpful background information on the Diamond mask ! TW pads are in; these feel fairly stiff compared with the stock pads; do the TW pads tend to soften up a bit after some use? Can any of you TW aficionados chime in?

They rescheduled due to predicted storms. The story I saw earlier also mentioned that Lee County deputies would be on site, as well as John's Creek PD.

I don't think that they used "the cell phone video" to judge the call, I've read reports where they used "a" cell phone to place a call to someone.... their UIC, maybe? My understanding of it was that the call was made to ensure they had the correct application of the rules. There are several reports that both U3 and U2 confirmed the miss of 3B by R2.

I think this throw would have hit him even if he had stayed fully in the lane until his "step, stride, reach or slide in the immediate vicinity". I only posted the comment to show the rule comment relative to his position all the way up the line; he was never legally in the lane. (The rule comment was directed solely to your reply, in other words). That's why I retracted my initial reply. The quality of the throw becomes an issue only if he stays in the lane legally. Had he done so, he might well have been ruled safe. But the RLI call is correct, IMO.

Rule 5.09(a)(11) [6.05(k)] Comment: The lines marking the three-foot lane are a part of that lane and a batter-runner is required to have both feet within the three-foot lane or on the lines marking the lane. The batter-runner is permitted to exit the three-foot lane by means of a step, stride, reach or slide in the immediate vicinity of first base for the sole purpose of touching first base.

That throw hits him whether he stays in the lane or not. Not a good call, IMO. Second review of the video shows him never legally in the lane.

Well glad to hear that they are taking care of this for you.

He was referring to the issue of R2 missing 3B, and the crew applying the rules to disallow the run.

I think it's because there's two outs. They leave PU at home, and even if U3 goes out (not even sure why he did anyway, he didn't move very far), so U2 takes R1 into 3rd (he's clearly there throughout the debacle at 3B, and U3 is also in the frame, but in short left field). U1 can easily take B/R around first and into 2B, passing him off to U2.
