Has the catcher and pitcher been instructed on the mechanics of a properly executed OBR intentional walk, and do they spend time practicing this procedure???????? If not, they should. If your team is going to be playing more OBR tourneys, introducing the pitching/catching staff to a proper LIVE BALL appeal of a missed base, leaving early on a tag up, along with the Intentional Walk mechanics during practice, should help in preventing situations like this from happening. Practice like you play.

It's a conspiracy. Umpire ejected him?, but he didn't even look at him. As an umpire with a reputation for the quick hook, I have really concentrated on observing this season, this doesn't mean there have been no ejections. However there has been a lot more "Coach get your house in order. You guys paid a lot of money to be here, so let's keep everybody in the game" But, recently I witnessed a "He's not gonna look at me and laugh" ejection. PU and BR had words about getting in the box. Don't know whether it was a disagreement on pitch location, or just 'BPS' (Big Poppy Syndrome), probably both. Can of Corn to right center to retire BR, he makes the big turn to go back to the first base dugout, he must have looked at the PU smiling, laughing, whatever..... and PU shot him. There were several "one more word" warnings throughout the weekend, I, was laughing at this guy a lot. As for this one, Pagen jumps out of the box in an unsportsmanlike display on strike one and says who knows what. 1-1 count, pitch for strike two, Commentators "We'll he went right back to the same location, you'd be crazy not to go out there. that was better than the first one" From 14 seconds to 19 seconds Pagen continues to verbalize his disagreement about balls and strikes, he had his say. We don't know if Hirschbeck made verbal response, maybe a, get back in the box warning. At 20 seconds after having his say and stepping into the box. Pitcher waiting, umpire waiting, starts to stick his big toe in the box just as the 20 second clock expires. "TIME.. STRIKE THREE BATTERS OUT" AWESOME!!!!!!! Of course the batter is giving it the "are you kidding me". Manger comes out, the PU says "its out of my hands, clock in the outfield had expired. There's nothing I can do". Especially the little guys, stop them from developing these bad habits. I've been working this all year and have had no problems, in fact most of the coaches hear me ask once, they'll turn to the dugout with a "hey guys keep a foot in the box. I wander if they get the double meaning in that statement, "Oh ya, by the way SWING THE BAT!
