After the first pitch of a 9 yr old game, and having dealt with this jack-wagon in the past and knowing it's going to continue, I would have given the warning immediately. And tell every other umpire not to look for it but, when it happens shut it down.

Left hip. or mitt side hip. I have only seen two left handed catchers in 13 years, it was weird working with them. Doubt that they went any further than the small field. This past weekend 9U, you know that team. Pretty sure that the short stop was committed to Boston College on a full ride and at least two other players were being courted by Florida University. Defensive coach goes to my partner they talk; partner comes to and says “He thinks they are leaving before pitch, I told him we would keep an eye on it.” Next inning R3 and R1 the BC commit, who plays up leaves on the release, no swing, pass ball, runners advance I wait until play action stops, Time, Runner left early, you back to 3rd you back to first base. Offensive coach flips S**T. I explain he doesn’t like but goes back to 3rd base coaches’ box. Fan’s what you mean, your terrible and all the classics. Next pitch…. LTL509, You are doing the right thing and ahead of a lot of other people, just by seeking the information. There is no easy way, or magic pill to speed up your knowledge on rules that change from year to year, and are not applied consistently, or interpreted the same. What do I mean by "not applied consistently, or interpreted the same", Some umpires do. some don't. This league or organization uses these rules from LL, and these from HS, and they made up a few because, they can. And don't forget Tie goes to the runner, a myth in baseball. That's Nothing safe signal " I give the D3K signal and clear home by stepping back and to the slight right as I know R3 is coming in but there is no chance for a play there but I need to see him touch/tag the plate as well as try and line up for R/L violation on the throw from F2. Runner beats the throw by a couple feet so no real play at 1st. R1 easily moves to 3rd on the play." As described above I'd like to take that play in foul territory, chest to ball near the first base fair line close enough to the plate for a read step 3rd base extended for possible play at the plate. Head on a swivel ball/f2 -bat- R3. see the touch or no touch at home, read step towards first base for R/L, overthrow, pulled foot swipe tag. Thoughts?

Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This isn't new, an illegal pitch is a ball. We just don't call it enough for the managers to remember it's in the book. Ballsy call, I really enjoy watching these young umpires.

This whole crew is working it, watch U3 go out, and U2 move in for possible play back into third. As for the timing on the play at the plate, Vic Carapazza, Need we say anymore? Awesome!!!!!! This young man works a game. . IMHO - He is one to watch, and aspire to be like.

Jordxn, As umpires we have more things to deal with than just ball/strike, fair/foul, safe/ out, etc.... Those 'things' all fall under "Game Management". Lot's of situations here and you will need a lot of different tools. Knock it off, that's enough, that'll be enough, don't do that, all of these and too many more to list are great tools that myself and others use to deescalate and sometimes serve as warnings. Game management includes knowing where you are and for whom you are working. We have all heard "When in Rome", so work with your local veterans and find out what works best for your area, don't be afraid to try new things to keep everyone in the game. Ignore, acknowledge, respond, warn, eject, is the process to follow. However, sometimes the situation and depending on the league, skipping steps is warranted and expected by your evaluator . MC and an unsportsmanlike display regarding balls and strikes are two that come to mind, NOT wearing jewelry, don't be that guy. Work hard, hustle, be consistent, fill your tool box.

After the first pitch comment, I would have stated clearly and loudly, 'ALL DAY (night) Long!!!!" Did this at an adult league game, inside rail right above the belly button, "STRIKE", he turned WHAT!!!, I responded "ALL DAY LONG!!!!" next pitch same location, "STRIKE" His entire dugout in unison "ALL DAY LONG!!!" not a word from anybody the rest of the game. Been doing it ever since.
