  1. I was thinking it. I guess I was just too chicken to say it.
  2. I understand what you guys are saying. I've already had a taste of varsity level play in some summer tournament play. The skill level of the older kids certainly makes thing easier, but I didnt have any sticky situations. When it comes right down to it, I'm not getting the varsity call until the guys in charge are confident I'm ready.
  3. You guys make it seem like its a bad thing to have goals , and want to achieve them. I'm sure I will not be assigned any varsity level games until the folks charged with making that decision feel I am ready.
  4. Do any of you have any experience with this stuff? I suppose an under shirt is and under short, but the compression tights and shorts have a draw string. I've never seen that before.
  5. Well, yeah I think so. I have to pay for everything up front, and there's no guaranty that I will be 100% reimbursed. It's where the guys from my group go.
  6. tjthresh; Have you attended the camp in Gr Rapids before? I was considering going to that camp this year. No, this will be my first year attending. A couple of the higher-ups in my association are instructors up there. Also, over the course of the season, the 50/50 drawing at our weekly meetings is used to fund the trip for the guys. It's a pretty good deal.
  7. Hey gang, Kind of a re-intro. My employer blocked this forum last summer, and for some reason or another it kind of slipped from my mind. But, well, I'm back. To catch everybody up with what I accomplished last year, I couldn't tell you how many games I work last year, but by the end of November I was ready for the off season. I ended up getting the call for some higher level summer and fall tournaments. I also ended up being recognized as one of the top 2 rookies in my association last year, which was an enormous honor. It always feels good to be recognized. I'm looking for big things this year. I'm heading to my first camp here an a couple of weeks. I'm really hoping to be assigned my first varsity game in the next few days. Finger crossed. I'm really excited to start my second season, and I can't wait to share it with you. Tom
  8. I don't know if its new, but the mobile layout is looking great on my phone.
  9. My season started for me today with the purchase of omen pair of Smitty combo pants, and 2 navy ball bags. Sunday evening I start with our association workouts at a local baseball academy. On February 5 and 6 I get to attend the Bruce Doane Sr Umpire Camp in Grand Rapids. Word on the street is that assignments should start coming out tomorrow.
  10. What a fantastic garment. I'm sure it will be making its way into my bag.
  11. I'm in the not my job camp.
  12. It looked like a towel to me. I'd never seen an umpire do that before.
  13. Yeah, I saw that. Must have been hot as hell. I was wondering who here would get worked up about it.
  14. The C9 is $7.50 right now.
  15. Dude, just try it. Its probably some of the best advice I've gotten. Really, you brought up the moaning, so it must be worth talking about.
  16. LL to Babe Ruth. F2 and F3 mostly.
  17. Its good to know that the cheap Bioflex has at least one good shot in it.
  18. I worked my first championship game and my first varsity level game tonight. It was at 17U Pastime tournament played at Ball State. It was easily the best baseball I've seen this year, and very easy to stay stay focused and in the game. I did call one dirt ball a strike. I had my mind made up too soon, and couldn't stop myself. That sucked and was pretty embarrassing. Still, it felt real good to get that opportunity.
  19. I had this yesterday in an 11U travel tournament. The batter started out lefty and tried to bunt with R1. Batter missed the bunt, and R1 stole second. Then the batter switched sides for the plate, and I initially stopped him. Of course the coaches weren't happy with me. I had some time to run it through my head before the pitcher was ready, and then changed my mind. It was the first time I'd see that, and it sort of threw me for a second. I came home and checked my rule book, and found I was half right. The pitcher wasn't ready to pitch.
  20. How long do we think that this guys has been an umpire? If he doesn't know by now that you can't do that, when will he learn?
  21. Either way, I'd hope that umpire has bigger issues now the being punched in the throat. I'd hope he has severely hampered his chances to work in the bigs again.
  22. Either you have yet to learn how to pick up internet sarcasm, or you think what that umpire did is okay.
  23. Yes, If I were to ever pull some crap like that, I'd fully expect to be punched in the throat.
  24. Yeah, probably. Still, I've never seen anything like that before. What is going on with the umpires these days? Is it just because I hang out here now that i notice this stuff more?
  25. That umpire is crap. He should have been punched in the throat. He just treated Kendall like a damn child.
