Is this one of those things video can be found on? Why is it that since we are all umpires here, another umpire can't blow it out their ? Some of us act like they've never watched a ball game and got pissed at the upmires. This guy just happens to have a fourm to vent to the world. I would like my 2 minutes back for reading that weak article.

and it was a mild success. I like to arrive about an hour before game time. I hate being rushed. Being rushed will just follow me to the field. I started off well. I got all of my strikes. The first 12 batters came and went fairly quickly. Then the wheels fell off for both defenses. It was error city. Around the 5th I lost my zone a bit, but managed to find it quickly. Time is still a bit quick. I get excited. Thought I might have my first chance to blow the DH rule, but it never came. Did much better with signals and rotations. I still need work though. The rotations need to come more natural. I probably need to be more vocal when communicating with my partner. Speaking of my partner, he kept wanting to come in and chat. Not give me advise. Just chat. Personally doesn't bother me because I like to chat, but I know its not how we are supposed to be on the field. Had polar opposite catchers. One was about as lazy as they come. The other hustled has tail off the entire game. It was impressive. Had a delayed steal in the top of 9 to put the visiting team ahead. Then the VT went and threw the ball around during the bottom of 9 to give the HT the win. Hey, let's do it again on Friday!

Yeah, right. My wife is still treating this as a hobby. I will be mowing. :HS

JV game Friday evening. 3 13U games starting at 8 a.m. Saturday morning. 2 13U games Sunday afternoon. I'm excited for it. Looks like quite a bit of work though. Any tips to get me through the weekend?

Yes! On offense and defense. Oddest damn think I've seen. What real fun to watch is having F1 set, the coach yelling defensive signals, and F1 having to step off to retrieve a piece of paper from his pocket to figure out what is going on.

"You want me to call that out! You need me to call that out!"

I the bed last night too. It was my first plate game. I bet I left a ton of strikes on the field. I screwed up signals with my partner. I screwed up most my rotations. I just felt completly overwelmed. I've got 1 season of football officiation and 5 games as BU under my belt. I've never went into a game more nervous than I was last night. I feel horrible. :rollinglaugh:

Nobody put the defense at a disadvantage, except the defense. The pitcher threw a bad pitch. The catcher wasn't aware enough to take the correct steps to keep the runner on third from scoring. Why is it an umpires job to save the defense?

Yeah, but the PU made his call. He balled it (verbalized or not). Its not his job to get the appeal, right?

My association directs us to verbalize a ball call, and it certainly would have prevented this situation. My association also directs us to say the count after the second pitch, and every pitch after.

So, I'm guessing that PU didn't verbalize the BALL call. That was the beginning of the end on this play. My novice opinion tells me that from what went down, you guys got this right. I'm sure the vets will come along and fix me though.

Well, is he unreported or illegal? If he's just unreported, I note the sub, and move on...I think.

My understanding is that you want to avoid the double call. In my association, PU makes the call.

Okay. I know by the way I've been explaining myself that I'm putting a time on the stop. I'm not. I guess I'll change from the "count" and I'll just say stop to myself, when I see the stop. How's that work for you guys? I have to do something to keep my focus where it needs to be.

That's the way I'm reading it, yes.

Right, but to come to a complete and discernible stop, there has some be some measurement of time for the stop. Its just what I do in my head so that I know there is a stop. The time means nothing.
