If anyone is ever in the Louisville, Kentucky area during any normal business day, Tuesday through Friday and want to visit with Jim Kirk and the rest of the super friendly staff at Ump-Attire.Com I highly recommend taking the time to do so.

Jim gave me a tour of the office and warehouse. I met all of the staff that was working that day and was able to do some touchy-feely of certain products that I had not previously been able to view in person. I was impressed. I was treated like royalty and I once again, wish to state that Jim and his staff are absolutely "top shelf" along with their products. The entire organization is dedicated to providing the best combination of customer service, the best products for the best possible prices. Some of the other guys may beat their price by a few bucks but nobody can beat the customer service.

Jim let me in on a little secret and shared with me the prototype of some new poly-wool pants he is developing with a USA manufacturer. They are fantastic. I am a true poly-wool believer and only wear the Honig's Poly-Wools since 2008. At present I own five pairs. However, I will DEFINITELY be purchasing some of the new Ump-Attire.com poly-wools when they come out. They will be superior to the Honig's product I can assure you of that.

I was able to pick up some much needed new gear too. A pair of Reebok Mid-High Plate shoes (I have been wanting a pair to replace my Three seasons old New Balances since summer 2009 when Mid-West Ump, Pete Reiser, let me borrow his pair for a game we worked together but I had to hold off due to my "vacation" to Afghanistan these past 17 months)

I also picked up a titanium Shock Doctor protective cup, a new Diamond silver super lightweight mask, some black traditional leather Wilson Mask Pads, socks, Ump-Attire.COM shirts, belt, etc,, etc. I had the entire order shipped to the Kansas side of the Kansas City area and it was here on Friday, April 29th. FAST!

So,NO! I am not being paid for this endorsement. I got the standard Umpire-Empire Premium Membership discount and free shipping since I spent over $300. I will definitely be buying more once I get back in to umpiring full swing.

If you want excellent customer service, superior products and competitive prices, I cannot speak highly enough of Jim Kirk and Ump-Attire.com for your needs.

My two cents....... Thanks for reading.

Well, Peter it sure sounds like u are endorsing Kirk and his store. You praise .Kirk s umpire attire shirts but when i saw ur membership poll smittys was number one and honigs two and ump attires ultimate shirts were at the bottom half..And ur bias is blatant and evident when u say when kirk gets his poly pants that they will be better than honigs and u guarantee it.., Come on its ok to love the guy and enjoy whatever perks u get. Just admit it. I m not saying anything bad about ump attire and kirk. I have never bought anything from him but my friend ordered his ultimate shirts last year and sold me one .For what i paid i was not impressed. As for the honigs poly pants. I dont know. 95%+ say they are the best pants in the market . I still wear my 1996 37 dollar honigs plate pants and base and last year added smittys to my clothing line. And finally Peter, overall if u compare prices Ump Attire is more expensive than most retailers . They are not cheaper than honigs thats for sure but not much more expensive either..In conlcusion ur bias and constant endorsement of kirk and ump attire is quite evident and most people who read ur reviews are aware of that. That being said , like i mentioned above, even ur overwhelming push for the ultimate shirt by ump attire was in vain as ur audience of viewers ranked them at the bottom behind smittys and honigs . without prejudice..my two cents...and i love ur columns and ur site very much but ur bias is evident..Keep up the good work and we know ur allegiance to kirk

No kidding; talk about run on sentence.

And, by the way, there is no comparison to the Ultimate shirts. Honig's has done themselves some serious damage by selling the sub-par, Pakistan made shirts. It will take years for them to recover. Also, by making the statement about wearing the same " 1996, 37 dollar Honig's plate pants", you've definately turned your critique into a laughable mess. How do you know the quality of any pants if you haven't purchased a pair in 15 years?

Just my 3 cents!

Don't feed the trolls.

I agree completely but I will give my standard reply in a situation like this.

You are on a message board not your phone. You have guys here that have umpired at many levels including MiLB, others have attended pro school but decided they didn't want a job. When posting here you have the time to type in proper sentences and paragraphs. If you want to taken seriously you need to ask questions in a proper form that we can read. You are certainly welcome to disagree, but flaming will not be tolerated. Flaming will result in a personal warning or ejection depending on the offense.

Why are you calling MajorDave "Peter" ?? Secondly, use proper grammar please, as Ump_24 said, this isn't a text....and thirdly, if you are talking to MajorDave, ...please, show a little respect, ok??

BTW honigs new shirts are made in the USA... I have bought a shirt from them 2 seasons ago, made in the USA...

do you own anything clothing not made in the USA? im pretty sure you have something that is not made here. Maybe your plate shoes, base shoes..something..LOL

I'm not saying that I don't own any clothing made outside North America. I own 2 of the "Made in Pakistan" shirts. I also ordered a Polo Blue shirt from Honigs's this Winter and it reads "Made in China". All I'm saying is that Honig's did themselves a great disservice by producing these.

I'm not sure where NB shoes are produced, but you're probably right Mazz.

Major,

Welcome back! I'm glad to hear that you have spoiled yourself - you deserve it! I am jealous that you were able to inspect the new UA poly-wools as I have not seen them. Jim swore me to secrecy about this new product a few months ago, so it sounds like he is getting close to a release date. BTW, I recently made a couple new KC contacts that may be able to help you. I'll email you that info.

Raiders,

I read your comments on the Midwest Ump site which sometimes reminds me of chirping from the dugout. While the personal attacks are annoying, feedback helps me refine what I am doing. In the end, my opinions are just that - my opinions. You, and all other umpires are entitled to your own opinions and are welcome to share them on the site.

As far as Ump-Attire, I enjoy that relationship which is casual at best. I am not paid by Ump-Attire although I do receive an occasional product to review. Many manufacturers send products for review, some do not. When I receive a free product it is disclosed in the review, and I try to provide a balanced view of the product, despite its "freebie" status. The truth is that most umpire gear on the market works well and receive "Fair" endorsements. Like anyone, I have personal preferences like the Champro mask which I endorsed before Ump-Attire began stocking it. I also prefer the Nutty Buddy which Ump-Attire does not carry. I know Jim reads these boards and actively solicits opinions and feedback. This results in Ump-Attire stocking excellent products at fair prices. The service is also first-rate, so what's not to like?

Mazz,

Honig's new shirt is made in China. I purchased a couple during their Spring clearance sale (two for $38 is hard to pass up). That sale is still active today. My first impression is favorable, but I haven't had a chance to field test it. Out of the box it feels a lot like the Ump-Attire Ultimate! Go figure!

Let's clear things up. The Honig's poly wools are the best availible, but the MLB pants (white pockets) are a tick better. Same maker, but just a little different quality.

If someone can make something better, hats off to them. Right now, with shipping, tax and alteration, you're looking at a C note for a pair of plate drawers. So cheaper would be bettter.

I own a China-made shirt. Could be better, BUT, thanks to the lower price, I also own an extra eight dollars, and those were made in the USA.

Need prices to come down a little before that eight dollars comes out of this American's pocket, goes to an American company who actually gives only one dollar to the American who made it.

Just my tired old spiel on Made in the USA. Not a knock on UA at all. GREAT customer service and selection.

Just my heartless Libertarian values. Same reason I can't get outs and my games go a few minutes longer.

I love what Jim has worked hard to create over at UA. His customer service is top notch no arguing there. As for the prices, he's fairly middle of the road. His website format is what I go to for the best angles of any product. Then due to pricing I do shop around from there. I still buy alot of honigs for the simple fact that I'm a touch and see kinda shopper. And I lived close to their Cali store (when open) and have family up in OR and MI so I make frequent stops. As for quality honigs new shirt are miles ahead of what they use to be. And they're starting to win alot of people back with the quality and pricing that they've established over the past year or so. Many units/conf still require honigs due to contracts or uniformity standards. Next compared to my UA long sleeve I will buy honigs for the foreseeable future. Reasoning is this, I've owned 2 UA shirts and both have unraveled on me and seems have come undone and had to be restitched by my tailor. Not to happy about that, but once fixed I enjoy the shirt. All companies will have their fair share of mishaps and grumbling customers, and people who give them praise. As for now I will continue to read other people opinions and then create my own from there.

Just my $0.02

First-

MajorDave, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! Having many of my family members serving in the Air Force, I know the sacrifice that you make in defending our great country.

Second-

I always look to UA first when I need to purchase gear...for football or baseball. Both of my football shirts are Ultimates and they are fantastic! The reason I look there first is quite simple...I have NEVER had an order screwed up...second..I get my stuff in 2 days with regular USPS priority shipping due to my location and don't have to pay a premium to get it.

Third-

I don't always buy from them due to some of the brands and prices they have on their goods. Not a big fan of Smitty pants for baseball...they don't fit me very well...oh well. It's like any other business...shop around for brands you like and prices you are comfortable with paying.

Not sure what the beef is that raiders has with Ump-Attire...frankly I don't care. Everyone is welcome to have an opinion....

Just make sure when you voice that opinion it is based on facts and at least a high school level of thought processing...otherwise folks might get there opinion of you re-enforced...

I am in agreement with just about everyone here. When I was first umpiring (Mid to late 90's) I ordered from +POS. because they had the best catalog in the days of internet infancy. When I got to college at Texas A&M we had a Honig's right in town. It was convenient and it was easy to try stuff before you bought it. Plus shipping did not have to be paid. After a few years off I got back into the game three years ago. My first instinct...living in a different place was to look to Honig's. At the same time I came across Ump-Attire for the first time...I think from Jim's participation on the forums. Since then, I have found that I always check Ump-Attire first...for football and baseball. Their website is very user friendly and the buying guides were a great help when I needed all new gear. The majority of what I buy comes from Ump-Attire. As others have stated, they simply don't mess up orders. Plus UPS shipping will get an order I place on Monday morning to me in Texas on Wednesday afternoon. I still order from Honig's when they have sales and when I need something that they carry that UA does not, but most of my orders have something wrong with them or the quality of the product is inferior. In the past two years probably 80% of my Honig's orders have had an error. I plan to plunge into the polywool market next spring. Honig's was going to be my choice, but now I might wait and see what kind of reviews the UA ones get. I get no special treatment from either supplier. I get 10% off at UA due to being a premium member here and 10% at at Honig's on baseball stuff since I have the insurance that can be purchased from the ABUA. With my discounts, the prices are similar. Shipping rates are similar. I don't pay tax on stuff from UA since I am in TX and I do on Honig's stuff. Also I save money by not having to send stuff back to UA and wait for a correction like I do from Honig's I like both stores, but UA will continue to get my business first until Honig's gets things better in line.

Any one know why the mobile version of the site takes all of the hard returns out of posts? I leave my account logged in to the mobile version because it is only one that allows me to do replies on my iPad and I don't want to have to switch it back and forth from home to work.

And those pants the MLB guys have have a strip of leather on the bottom of the pants to keep from ripping...

As for now I will continue to read other people opinions and then create my own from there.

Just my $0.02

Its hard to argue with the success Jim has had over at UA. He has turned that company into a top notch operation in just a few years. That is not easy. I think it is important to support companies like his in this day & age (there arent a whole lot out there).
