You see it in hoops ..A foul in the first half isn't a foul with 15 seconds left in the fourth quarter of a close game, ,lack of hockey penalties in OT, but I always considered baseball different. A strike in the first inning is a strike in the 9th...interference in the first inning is interference in the 9th. Even if it's not true, NCAA is creating the optic of "You can't make that call in that spot" goes for baseball as well. Couldn't agree more...then should we just leave the field in the last inning. Since we shouldn't make any calls in "that spot"? What exactly does that mean? It's the classic coach line when something doesn't go their way. 1 1 Quote

I might give some leeway if it's the trailing foot that is outside the base -- it's tough to fit the entire body in that space. But if the runner is trying to be safe, the lead foot will go directly to the base -- it's the quickest way (given that he is sliding) to reach the base. Putting the lead foot outside the base and into F4 makes this illegal, imo. Wonder if the NCAA will come out with something. 3 Quote

It's the classic coach line when something doesn't go their way. well, you could make up a special 9th inning rule that says anything questionable/close/whatever word you want to use, goes to the offense or defense. just put that in print so everyone can see. that still doesn't mean everyone would have or see the same judgment for any word you want to use. they put in that barrell head past the front hip rule (which i think pros should put in their interpretation) on the check swing, but i am sure that judgment call does not get seen the same by everyone. hey, everyone wants something to blame the umpire on so they can say they would get fired for a mistake like that. hey, can anyone even work anywhere under a no mistake world. and who gets to point the finger? and remember, if you get fired, a new job might be impossible to get, and do l have to admit getting fired from an advocation on an employment application for transparency in case my firing from Little League umpire for a bad call goes on social media and i was not transparent about that or thought it did not count. who is everyone recommending today on social media to be fired. it was jordan baker and doug eddings in the pros the other day, and the college play person the other day/days. heck everyone in the world will get at least 1 day in D1 and MLB before their life expires. 1 Quote
zoops Posted June 12, 2025 Report Posted June 12, 2025 Like many have alluded to, I think if this came out in one of the NCAA's You Make the Call videos from an obscure early or mid season game, they would no doubt break it down that this should be called FPSR. Which of course is frustrating. 3 Quote
