LL Rule Changes - Wrong

LL just put out their 2023 Rule Changes and they are incorrect (the were notified and are correcting them).  They will be reposted.

The changes they posted included 7.13, calling an out for leaving the base early in BB.  That did not pass Congress and should not have been included in the Rule Change Publication.

Me too but it didn't pass, not sure why.  The Poof Play lives on!

t's NEVER an out in baseball.  It's ALWAYS an out in softball. Let's leave it that way.

Though I didn't realize they approved it for regular reason only. Another "I know coach but not regular season anymore" item. sigh

I been telling them all its reg season only No playoffs or tourney rules

Not true, LL gives local leagues the option of calling runners out that leave the base early in Tee-Ball and Minors.  Always amazed me you could do it in lower divisions but not Majors.  I guess kids get dumber when they get older!

While i saw that option in a non current RIM I have, @Rich Ives will tell you that it's not in the rulebook and he would be right.

It's in the RIM and it's taught at Clinics.  Not saying everyone does it, most don't, but it is an approved Option.

Really?  Which rule set?  Do they just use the LL baseball rule?

 

I've never played/coached in a softball league or tourney where leaving early wasn't an immediate dead ball with runner out.  Even slow pitch beer leagues.

12.6 Base Runner Is Out

The base runner is out:

12.6.1 When they leave the base they are occupying before the pitch is released and the defensive coach does not take the result of the play.

Delayed dead ball in NCAA. 

Rationale: runner leaves early, batter hits a double-play ground ball.  Why reward the offense by wiping the second out off the board and returning the batter for another shot?
