Indicators (Strike/Ball vs. "Call Order")

I've always used a plastic 4-wheel indicator with call order as the count orientation. I have been wanting to try a metal indicator out of curiosity and while I found a Markwort aluminum indicator with call order orientation, it seems most indicators (plastic or metal housings) favor strike/ball orientation. Pardon my ignorance, can someone explain why strike/ball indicators dominate the market and why so many of us prefer those?

The metal all-star one I have is 3/2/2--still strikes over balls, though.
