Batter swings, strike 3, but breaking ball hits batter's foot. MLB ump ruled live ball but didn't see ball hit batter. Is the ball dead even though it was a strike? I'd have ruled live ball because of strike 3. This even occurred Red Sox/Rangers 5/25/2017

Any time a pitch hits a batter, the ball is dead. Period. Next, the umpire decides if the pitch was a ball or a strike. If it was a ball, the batter is awarded first base. If it was a strike, the batter remains at bat or is retired if it was strike three.

When a batter is hit it is ALWAYS a dead ball no matter what else happened.

Given what you say the umpire saw (or didn't see), he made the right call.  Given what you say actually happened, he made the wrong call.

Is this subject to replay?  Did they get it right?

I saw that game live.

How the umpires did not see it in the review is troubling but, then again, I am not sure if they can play it in slow motion.

Never mind-- I read that it was not reviewed.
