Next time you leave the field thinking you get all the crazy plays and everyone else gets all the no problem games or are living with the angels, just watch this one from May 7, 2016.

June 6.

or if you feel that you are the only one in the USA that ever hear's some chirping on pitches.

This occurred in the bottom on the 3rd with 1 out and a runner on 1st and visitor NC State ahead 1-0.

batter receives a walk on the pitch which means 1 out and runners on 1st and 2nd

next batter grounds into inning ending double play. NC State was ahead 1-0 at the time of all the excitement, and wins game 8-1.

Let's see if the school itself shows some intestinal fortitude with some profound punishment that will enlighten the coach to the fact that he is still an educator and is tasked with representing his institution in a manner that brings credit, respect and honor and decency to that institution itself, as well as to the great institution of Collegiate Athletics and the life lessons that are to be learned at an institute of higher learning. That among these are how to be a role model, show respect for all of those in charge, and how to deal with adversity all times, win or lose. The thrill of victory as well as the agony of defeat. If this is considered the proper representation of the Institute that calls itself North Carolina State, it has taken the term Collegiality to a very low point.

What was the initial call on the "triple play" -- I don't think catch / no-catch in the infield can be overturned (well, except in rare circumstances and this isn't one of them)

Video is here:

It seems that they ruled that F6 caught the ball (BR out), R3 was safe (needed to be tagged), and R2 was out on the tag. Then R3 was called out on the upheld retouch appeal.

Sure looked like it skipped into F6's glove. Had they ruled no catch, R3 would be out on the force at HP, R2 out on the tag, and no appeal should be upheld (only 2 outs on the play)

Let me ask this...would the run count if the batter refused to enter the batter's box?

OR

Would the defense simply make and advantageous fourth out appeal to negate the run?

OR

Something else?

The run scored because R3 needed to be tagged, and he wasn't. That has nothing to do with the batter. That run counts until the defense appeals R3's failure to retouch (and it is upheld).

Deal with the batter independently. He has to enter the box to resume play. If we tell him to enter and he refuses, he risks ejection.

There is no possibility of a fourth out, as the third out has yet to be recorded.

So that batter gets ejected for failure to enter the batter's box.  We don't put the ball in play until we get a batter to get in the box so we can put it in play so they can execute the failure to retouch on R3?

If the batter is refusing just so the team "can't" make an appeal, I'm putting the ball in play anyway.  This is usually going to happen at an end-of-game situation, but I'm applying it here.

Then lose the protest? :stir  Yes, I know this is a "knotty problem" curious to hear how others would manage a situation like this.

I'm 100% certain I wouldn't lose any protest here.  Even if it's technically "wrong" the error didn't affect the final ruling.

That makes sense...but it could affect the outcome of the game right?  Which is how the protest rule reads.  I don't recall anything in there with regard to the final ruling.

My curiosity about this is shouldn't it be bases loaded, with 1 outs rather than 3 outs. Could you argue that it put the offense at a disadvantage because they are thinking the ball was not caught, thinking they have to, they all attempt to advance. Because, if U2 had came out aggressively with "thats a catch, thats a catch!!" (not attempting to bash the umpire, happened real quick) maybe the runners don't attempt to advance, everyone stays where they are, and R3 is not called out for failure to retouch?

Thoughts?

I'm not going to weigh in on this any more than to simply say the 2nd base umpire immediately called it a catch. Watch the video and you'll see him with his right arm up signaling a catch.

For sure.  Agree. 100%

whoever said that pitch wasnt even close, might want to relook at his strike zone.. it was close, just not a strike. It was between the batter box line and the plate, which means it's close.

It was me.  Was there an overhead view of the pitch?  That looks outside of the river to me.  At that level I'd imagine that a lot outside.  I see a 1 seed losing to a 4 seed in the 7th inning and perhaps his team was a little flat.  Good to see you're back Mazz.  The forum is better w/ you here.

The catcher's 'hand-work' was also a bit to obvious, indicating just how far out it was.

Not really.. he caught the pitch inside of his knees... so unless his knees were on the outside of the plate, then it would show the pitch was out.. remember " although not technically" we do call some pitches based on perception.. and to me that pitch wasnt that fat out. and at that level.. ha...

No problem...I didn't take it that way.  We just don't agree on the closeness of the pitch (based on the camera angle), heck for all I know you were U2 and had a look right down the pipe at it.

That ain't even close to not being FPSR skip!

Unless it's posted somewhere else on the site, does anybody have a clip of the play from the Coastal Carolina - LSU game last night (6/11) where there was a line drive hit down the 1B line that bounced fair almost exactly where U1 was standing and then it rolled down into the pen and the ball girl picked it up and threw it into the stands?  I was at a bar and didn't have audio and was just curious what the crew's discussion was as it seemed they got together for quite a while.

Edit - hopefully this works, although it doesn't show the entirety of the conference..
