Yes... love watching the fans throwing beer cans from the upper deck... just hit a kid in the head.

Russel Martin was charged with an error but the game is now being played under protest.

Not really all that crazy, I do enough minor ball to see that crap all the time....lol What was crazy was the classless display by Toronto fans..

So without replay available yet...

2 out, R3. Batter is resetting in the left hand hitters box. He is within the confines of the box and extends his bat/arm towards the catcher as he is resetting. Martin makes his throw back to the mound but the ball hits the batters hand or bat and careens off towards third. R3 comes in to score as HPU is signalling dead ball. After meeting they determine the run scores which unleashes the best in the fans.

Watching this game... Karma is coming back to haunt TX... 3 dropped balls in 3 plays.

Hit to SS, fumbled.

F4 to F6 threw in the dirt, dropped.

F1 to F5 dropped.

Bases loaded, no out.

Yeah but this a MLB elimination game!!

the only F*#Kup I see here is that the home plate ump called time while the runner was about halfway down the line. Maybe NYC ruled that the runner was going to make it in time even if he didn't rule it dead? Blue Jays playing under protest for now

True that but as tjwoelfel13 said the baseball gods will always come up with something weirder

You have seen a ball off the bat like this?

I've seen it off the bat, off the helmet a couple times and even off a batters hip once

From PBUC:

However, if the batter is standing in the batter’s box and he or his bat is struck by the catcher’s throw back to the pitcher (or throw in attempting to retire a runner) and, in the umpire’s judgment there is no intent on the part of the batter to interfere with the throw, consider the ball alive and in play.

I have.  In a college game.

with a runner scoring from third?

Posted

nope, never a runner on third. off the hip I had a runner on 1, runner went to 2, one off the helmet runner on 2 didn't go anywhere because it was more of a glancing blow off the helmet that still more or less went to the pitching mound.  Otherwise no runners

Once the home plate umpire called the play dead that runner from 3rd should have been returned to third. Don't see how he can score with the ball dead there.

I was driving during this game. Had the misfortune of listening to Sutcliff go on and on about how the umpire's have to fix this, it's a dead ball, everybody knows that, yadayada...A bit later Shullman reads some rules and they determine scoring the runner may be the right call. Then, the best.....Sutcliff says if that's the rule, and the ball is live, the commissioner should change the rule immediately and but Odor back on third. :rollinglaugh:

Was the ball made dead legally?
