I can understand the scoreboard being wrong in counting the pitch in the balk that occurred during the sequence (looking for that video).... but I find it hard to believe that this has happened so often on a professional field in the last few years.

Caveat:  NOT THAT I'M PERFECT, because I've lost it too, and I've rung up guys on strike 2, it happens ....but ........   IT SURE AS HELL shouldn't take this long ......

For *us* -- when ever there's a balk or anything else unusual, give the count, several time, loudly, to your partners and the players.  (but, of course, don't overdo it  ;) )

Even if one of the other BUs could recite the pitch sequence, and got together with PU, I think a video review is mandatory in MLB. It's not like they can easily consult the official scorer, who is in a press box booth. Video makes it indisputable... it just takes, as you say, way too long.

Use the dugout phone and call him - like participants do when they don't like a hit/error decision.

If only there were some device, small enough to fit in the palm of the hand, that umpires could use to keep track of things like balls/strikes/outs. :stir:P

The risk in not going to replay is too high. If they ever screw up a count, it's on Sports Center that night. If they spend 3:30 making sure they have it right, there is hardly any mention of the delay.

In my games, once I've gone to the BU or the scorekeeper, I make the announcement, and everybody lives with it. I don't have it reviewed for me on national TV over my post game adult beverage.
