Bryce Harper clearly says after the first pitch .... "that's so Fu&^%$ing bad" ....... but I don't think that has anything to do with it.....

I think he was showing Hudson up as he was shimmy-footing back into the box just before he got tossed.  He was acting the child.  He deserved to get dumped.

Of course he 'did nothing', he's Bryce Harper! Our culture as a whole has rejected any notion of authority, especially for the celebrity. Thus, without authority, there's no rule, no rule, no violation. It's not only in baseball either folks, this phenomenon has infected western culture so deeply it's not likely to be reversed. It's evident in the classroom, the workplace, and athletic fields of all kinds, and it is certainly evident in the government, and I'm sad to say, even the church. 

So this won't get better for umpires, nor any other 'authority', it'll get worse. Dig in, be faithful, try to leave yourselves blameless, and the let the chips fall where they may.

Here's what we battle, obviously not at the MLB level, but more so the general attitude toward authority as @kstrunk stated above.

Not saying that Marvin was right 100% but we've all been there.  

So lets think this through.  Dugout is on the umpire.  Umpire misses a pitch and pretty much acknowledges it to Harper.  Batter and Umpire are back in and ready but the dugout (led by the manager) won't shut up.  Umpire (being a nice guy) goes and tells the manager to shut up and the manager isn't classy enough to just say "Yes Sir...Guys knock it off."  Agitated umpire goes back to his spot and Harper is still being a prima donna and not close to the box.  Umpire says, lets go Bryce...get in the box.  Prima donna then pisses on the umpires leg by arguing that he was in the box before this all started instead of saying Yes Sir and playing baseball.  Prima donna is dumped because he has no class...HC dumped to because he takes a personal shot at the umpire as he is walking away.

End of the day...Marvin gets paid, Bryce gets paid, Matt gets paid and tomorrow Joyce will have the dish and Marvin will be on 3rd, and 40,000 fans will come back and pay to see more of the prima donna!  I'm betting that Marvin is on the 3rd hole at Congressional about right now laughing about it!  One thing I love about umpires...we don't play our victim card!

Good. Maybe he should think of that before pulling this stuff that gets him ejected. 

Before he got into the league, he had a reputation of being confrontational and arrogant — and guess what, umps know this. I wonder how many ejections it will take before he gets the message. It certainly doesn't help that he has an amazing hothead for a manager in Williams. Also, here's the perfect Jim Joyce face, larger. I don't know who the eye roll was directed it, but it's priceless. 

 

Edited to add that what's funny is that, with the K zone showing, the ball got the knees at the bottom of the zone. No one realizes that if a ball touches the line, it's a strike.

​CCS/UEFL post about this indicates the pitch was incorrectly called. Now, I'm not bashing Hudson...I like him, but this isn't the first missed pitch and won't be the last.  Don't act like a jackwagon and you won't get dumped!

By the way, if rat managers are called, well, rats...  What are players referred to???

By that you mean the top of the ball was slightly below the hollow of the knee? I don't know. I never saw a side view of the pitch, honestly, nor have I seen a line drawn extending from the front of the plate to the rear of the plate on a plane with the hollow of the knee, and proving that, at no point in the pitch did the ball touch such an imaginary line. 

And if the strike zone went straight book rule — especially up and down — there will be much bellyaching from hitters.

So the little box thing shows the strike 1 was slightly low.  It's still borderline.  Harper ran his mouth.  Williams ran his mouth.  When told to get in the box, Harper acts like a primadonna and gets shown the door.  Good ejection Marvin!

I think what happened here is that Hudson told Harper to get back in the box, Harper refused, Hudson yelled at him, so Harper decided to show up Hudson by going, "You want me in the box? Here. My toe is in the box. Happy now?" And Hudson tossed him for that.

Totally justified. Harper could have avoided that whole incident by just getting back in the box.

Whether he missed the pitch or not is completely irrelevant.  

He got dumped for being a moron last week on a swing that they got right.

Right or wrong, Harper's reaction is not equal to the "offense"

Bryce Harper is a douche bag who takes no responsibility for his actions.  Last year, when they were playing in Atlanta, he was pissed about something (imagine that) , and walked around the PU and swiped his foot across the "A" behind the umpire, completely pissing off every Atlanta fan.  He was later shown denying that he did it.  REALLY?  It was only replayed about 100 times on the CF screen as well as on TV for the viewers at home.  He's disrespectful and arrogant.

There was an interesting discussion on MLB Tonight, and Harold Reynolds was going through Hudson's day. Lots of chirping from the bench. But that's not the point. 

 

My point is that a player in his third? Fourth? year in the league is constantly rolling his eyes or chirping when a call doesn't go his way. He'll do it on the first pitch and he'll do it on the third. It's been like that since he got up. The "the ump makes it about himself" argument is lame and a cliche by this point. Is the expectation for the umps to be verbal punching bags? 

In basketball, jawing like these players do at times earns you a technical foul. Another one and you're done. I don't hear refs "trying to make the game about them." 

In football, any disrespect towards the refs gets you an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, and will probably get you a nice chunk of your paycheck diverted elsewhere. 

Hockey's not so bad, simply because they limit who can say things and when. Thou there is the occasional bench minor penalty. 

Soccer gets you a yellow or red card for mouthing off. The baseball rule books simply say that a player can be removed from the game if he's violating sportsmanship laws. And these umps have spent at least a decade in the minors — with a ton of focus on game management skills — to make sure they can deal with the benches. Why are they treated like umps are the teenagers in this situation? 

I've said it before and I'll say it again: MLB Network needs to have a former umpire on staff for these things.
