I gotta agree with the announcers. The free foot moves first. That's the start of a motion. Balk. Shocked that wasn't called.

The only possible reason I could see for not calling the balk is that in the approved ruling it mentions that if there is any doubt that the pitcher is trying to decieve the runner intent should govern. That is the only reason i could see not calling a balk as he really didn't seem to be trying to decieve the runner.

Bad miss, but at least it didn't affect the outcome.

You cannot be serious!

Most likely outcome if the balk is called:

Giants still win 3-1.

I think it was the surprise factor. You see it and try to process what you just saw, it doesn't look right but you can't pull the trigger.

Very little changes in a game can really affect the outcome.

Ask the CUBS.

Which is why I said "most likely" outcome. Didn't the very next pitch end the inning? But I would never underestimate a Cardinals fan's ability to blame a whole series loss on one call.

That's what I was getting at. The next pitch ended the inning. Bumgarner likely throws the same pitch either way. Unless he's horribly rattled by the balk call and he puts one right down the middle, nothing changes.
