I read a book. And wtf was Ventura thinking his actions would do?  It was a cut and dry call.

I'm not expert but I think this was upheld because the runner could have slide far around into foul ground and gotten the plate with his hand. Certainly there was more of a lane than in the White Sox game.

I don't get it. How far from home plate does R3 have to be before we say the fact that F2  "blocking " the plate without the ball is irrelevant? In the SF/CHI game, F2 had the ball before R3 was in the dirt circle. How can F2 "block" the plate if R3 is 25 feet from it? 

Stop the SF play around 0.08 and the Met play around 0.07. In both plays, F2 has the ball and the runners are beginning their slides. I just don't see where these runners are being impeded by an F2 without the ball. They're both out by a mile. Maybe it's the letter of the law, and the way the rule is written, but the bottom line is it's bad for the game and people are getting tired of the perceived inconsistencies in these calls. It needs to be fixed before the September pennant races and post season.

Maybe the umpires have collectively decided to enforce it in as many situations as possible so they WILL change it.  Just a theory...

There is no difference Rich, ...none whatsoever.

 

They better fine tune this 7.13 ruling and how it's applied.

I think there is a difference...in the first one F2 is across the line in to foul territory.  In the second, as the announcers say (gag) F2 doesn't cross the line until he has the ball.

Exactly, ....than either play violated 7.13 (IMHO)

 

ALSO ......

 

How , once ejected, ..........is Ventura allowed to question the placement of the runners?  Which they allow him to do, ....AND they review it again,........AND they change it!  Correctly, but ......... Ventura's ejected ....how do you come back out and get a review granted?

Nobody mentioned how reasonable and somewhat entertaining the Giants broadcast team was during this whole review process.  Does anybody know if you can find Hawk's call of this online anywhere?  The deadspin article about this play had a pretty good comment.  "If Vin Scully is America's Grandfather, then Hawk Harrelson must be its drunk uncle."
