I agree with most of the posts above regarding the INT. I wouldn't use the running lane as a way to explain the INT because that has nothing to do with the interference but if you judge it to be INT then call it INT, not runners lane INT. As far as dealing with fans go it's different where ever you are. For most youth baseball I would assume that most league officials or tournament directors would rather you eject the fan and then address it from there rather than stopping the game and having them remove the fan. It's quicker that way and it's much easier to deal with the situation that way for all parties involved really. As a tournament director I have always preferred dealing with those kinds of situations this way. It makes it much easier to address the problem in a timely manner and it typically helps to bring it to my attention quicker than someone calling me down and telling me theres a problem. To each his own but in my opinion as both a TD and an umpire I think it's much easier to just have the umpire eject the fan and deal with it from there.

Notice that Welke did not talk to the fan; he talked to game administration (which in MLB ='s usher/stadium security).  Don't talk to fans.

It depends are where you are at, who you are calling for, and what level...

Youth Baseball, I have no problem removing a fan that is using any sort of language that is I feel is unacceptable for youth. I've done it 3 times and I have not had any problems, they get their stuff and leave. Our assigner, Our baseball president, our board are stand by that we have the right to remove fans that we feel are causing any issues.

HS Baseball, I would just inform the coach to inform the administrators. I've never seen this have to come into play, typically Asst. Principals and a police officer are present at all HS games in our area. .

Who cares what the fans do? Unless they're shooting at each other or actually setting the venue on fire, why would you grab that end of the stick?

If they're bothering you (and they should not be able to bother you), it's best to have game management handle them.

Understand though, once you acknowledge their presence/behavior, you validate them.....it's best not to.
