Question

2 out, runners 2nd & 3rd.

Batter hits ball to left center, R3 scores. R2 rounds 3rd. LF throws ball to plate.  Play emanate. Ball in the air hits bat thrown on the field by batter 6 feet in front of the plate in play.

I called offensive interference batter out.

This call resulted in the ejections of both the third base coach and manager for unsportsmanlike conduct.

I could not find this anywhere in the LL rules.

Is my ruling correct?

It is covered in the MLB 6.05 (h)

Does the mlb rule apply when not mentioned the LL rulebook?

Please help

@Rich Ives takes the whole team out for pizza after a game.

One of the players' drink order is incorrect. The player slaps the drink onto the ground, jumps out of his booth and does his best impression of 'coach', browbeating the waitress. Spittle flies as he screams in her face.

The night manager, hearing all the commotion, rushes out into the dining room and demands the entire team leave his establishment, at once.

When the young man gets to the parking lot, feeling puffed up and proud of how his belittling skills have come along, he thinks out loud to his coach, "that was worth it!"

You blew  missed the out call.

Did you allow the runs?

I can see the coaches getting upset with an out call but really going nuts if you disallowed the runs.

Might be worth getting tossed.

WHO EDITED MY POST?

Not me, but whomever did, I thank.

So it's OK for people to use euphemisms like "screwed the pooch" but not to come right out and say a call was blown?  Really?

Rich, I respectfully disagree that it's appropriate to go nuts, no matter how wrong the call--especially in young/youth sports. Having been an intense (some might have said crazed) coach--think episodes that would have made Bobby Knight proud--I've been there. But I came to realize that it did no one any good to rant and rave. Question the call, but ballistics only have a role in national defense, not youth sports. Take a deep breath, then use the episode as a lesson for your kids, as others have suggested.

Depends on how nuts nuts is. To me it's going out of character. I can do a finger point and say "You're a complete idiot - that's never nohow interference and never has been you dolt!" or I can go leaping all over the field (Piniella style) in a major rant. I'm thinking the former and you're thinking the latter.

Umpire to umpire, ...on this site, .... "screwed the pooch" is perfectly acceptable ...

Coach to a "guest" umpire on this site in the "ask the umpire" section ....  not so much

my .02 ... YMMV

Getting EJ'd in little league?  I don't care how poor of a call it was.

#douche

Ahh..I missed the LL part. LL is no place to argue calls.

It's the real place. It's where everyone learns. Do it right.  As one of our UIC's said in a coaches meeting "Rich doesn't argue calls - he argues the rules"

Completely, 100% inappropriate.  For all you know, the umpire is a cardiothoracic surgeon, or an aerospace engineer or a highly respected philanthropist in his community.  Just because he volunteers to umpire LL games and doesn't know the rules doesn't make him an idiot or a dolt.  Maybe he's not a volunteer and is just starting out and learning.  Either way, you show a lack of character by calling names and trying to degrade an individual who is out there trying to do his best.

State your case.  Do it in a civilized manner.  Accept the result.  Offer to help him understand the rule better after the game.  Move on.

[soapbox]Why do any players, coaches or fans think that we are out there to do anything other than our very best?  I'm there to get every pitch, fair/foul, catch/no catch, safe/out, and every rule application 100% correct EVERY SINGLE TIME!  I make mistakes.  I try to learn from them.  The LAST thing I need is some Earl Weaver wannabe getting in my face about it.  Conduct yourself like a decent human being, and I promise I will respond in kind.[/soapbox]

She shouldn't have gotten the drink wrong

A matter of degree? I see little difference between being yelled at and called names and a Pinella rant. Besides, do you think any umpire would change a call just because of a coach's antics and name-calling? Do you really think that's the most productive way to convey your point? Let's see how this would play out:

"You're...." It's personal, EJ reason #1.

"You're a complete idiot." It's personal, EJ reason #2.

"you dolt!" It's personal, EJ reason #3.

What would you have accomplished except for some personal, emotional satisfaction? You wouldn't have gotten the call reversed, and your LL kids would see their coach yelling and perhaps emulate him, learning the wrong lesson at that impressionable age.

[Edit] Oh, and you would probably earn yourself a suspension for the EJ and your conduct.
