Question:

If the onfield umpires are NOT in the decision loop WHY do they waste time walking over, putting on headsets stand there.

Why not have the skip just throw a flag, tell a offical person he is protesting the call and let New York send a ruling to the person talking to New York?

But would they look better doing it this way?  Complete with dramatic zoom of umpire's face afterwards?  Picture the fans shouting "safe, safe, safe!" instead of "kill, kill, kill!" and then, boom!  NOPE, he's out.

One can only conclude, it was IR for who the boo tolled. They booed for everyone who ever called for this Pandora's box to be opened. They booed MLB for letting a rat dictate terms to the custodians of their beloved game. They booed our whole society for sliding from depression-busting, Nazi-killing, 'nobody ever said life was fair' folk to this self-important, politically-correct bunch of money-loving, Prozac-gobbling diaper babies.

Awesome...I'm right with ya baby, until...

$$$ DOES NOT = FREE SPEECH!

What kind of politically-correct, Prozac-gobbling, baby crap is that?

Too funny. I just don't know why you concluded/ruined a perfectly good baseball rant with a gov't political liberal talking point.

And I thought all umpires were republicans.

They are supposed to be dispassionate dispensers of Pure Justice, icy islands of emotionless calculation. In short, umpires should be acute Republicans.

In five years time, replay will go the way of prohibition, Joe Torre will be forced out of office, and the umpire's uniform will seem as cool as a fighter pilot's.

I predicted replay many years ago. And you can see once we got it I said it would be expanded because I was correct in my belief that Selig was talking out of both sides of his mouth in saying publicly he wasn't in favor of expanded replay but, In my belief, was probably telling his fellow owners that it would be expanded.

Unfortunately, I don't see it going the way of the dodo bird. I see continued expansion.

Now we just have to learn to adapt to it.

Until the seats stop filling and the tv ads stop selling, nothing will change. The sad part is, they may decide a minimum amout of time for each review to allow for another commercial or two. Imagine a one minute minimum time for each review. Adds another couple hundred thousand to the coffers of the tv/radio advertisement budget. Scary, but possible.

Please no. NFL style breaks not needed. We already have natural breaks when teams change sides and when one of the umpmillion pitching changes occur. However Jocko, I believe you will be found to be correct.
