Not that anyone cares I guess since it was announced at 1:35 est., but here it is.

6 from this DS will go on to work the WS.

Just like college where the CWSU come from the Regionals the MLB come from the DS so there is a rest in between.

Neither MLB nor College allow a true merit system where the highest ranked umpires work all the way through each Special Event, however College does allow back to back with the Regionals and Super Regionals  but not the Supers and the WS. MLB does not allow back to back anything.

Here are the top rated 36 MLBUs for 2013. Those working the Wild Card game worked the NLCS and ALCS last year.

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/mlb-names-umpires-for-tiebreaker-wild-card-games-and-division-series?ymd=20130930&content_id=62226644&vkey=news_mlb

Will someone work back to back WS. It is allowed now but has not been done. Also will someone get the trifecta of ASG, DS, WS, like Davis did last year.

Look, I understand that there are varying levels of efficieny with the MLB Umpires, but is it absolutely necessary to be unprofessional in speaking about one of our brothers? I'm not saying that you can't point out mistakes, or differences of opinions, but to personally chastise or worse against one or more, is not becoming of us as umpires. There is a way to discuss situations and plays without going personal, and to learn, rather than to just tear down and destroy. CB earned his way to the major leagues. He's there because he worked hard to get there. I don't think for one moment that when or if he kicks a call, it doesn't bother him. Just like they said in THE THIRD TEAM, there is a monkey running loose around the field and sometimes it just finds you. Well, aparently CB seems to be a target and it always finds him at the inopportune time. Discuss the mannerisms and the play, not the man. He deserves respect.

Manny,

Relax. Please

Someone asked if anyone was surprised to see CB on the post season list.  I said 'yes'....

So what?

It's not like someone has called for a public flogging of the man ......

I've simply noticed a rash of bashing certain MLB umpires on the board lately and no one is saying anything to the contrary, so I decided to. My post was not directed at any one individual, and it wasn't that specific question that prompted the response. So rather than just assuming things, how 'bout asking me? I'm totally approachable and am always willing to listen and talk. I am as relaxed as can be, nor am I uptight. I am just principled, and I stand behind my beliefs. That's not to say anyone else is not.

If you have only just noticed a "rash of bashing" on CB, you haven't been here long enough.

my :2cents: while i know almost no one means to talk bad about the person, it is important to remember that a good amount of people on this site have relationships with MLB umpires....friends, mentors, and in at least one case an immediate family member

It's too bad our boy Hoye didn't get an assignment... I wonder if that blown fair/foul call a couple years ago in the playoffs is still haunting him.

So Texas Manny

Are all managers equally able?

Are all players equally talented?

Are all athletes equally talented?

Are all businesses equally successful?

etc.

Same with umpires.

No one is saying anything to the contrary?  Many many posts on this site are about incredible judgement, great timing, good positioning and hustle, and just flat out great calls....so come on....it's there, you just don't see it ;)

I know you weren't directing at any ONE person, I just decided to answer in general, that's why I didn't "ask you".  Look, CB has flown under the radar all season until recently,...it happens.....but it's happened before also and in the press, etc, ....he gets beat up.   We as a group of umpires need to learn from everything we see at the big league level!!

The reason I said 'relax' is because you got all worked up because JaxRolo posted a picture that someone from an LA newspaper posted about Jim Joyce ...it was a parody on the "most interesting man in the world" .... come on man it was funny ........not that we want to "make fun" of bretheren, but there was some levity there ....and .....you got fairly upset about the post.   This just reminded me of it, and that's why I said 'relax'.

The guys in black are the best!  No doubt about it, ....but guess what, ........they're just like you and me, ....they're human, and they're going to mess up, period.  And, we as armchair umpires are going to respond when they do.  Are we going to request a public flogging? Hardly not!  But, ... we're aloud to have an opinion on what happened, why, etc ....

Just because someone here says .......  "that was horrible" .....doesn't mean that THAT PARTICULAR UMPIRE is horrible.  Like I said, ... it happens, and we all do it.

Back to the original post and what started this .....

Last time CB was in the post season, there were issues on a couple calls, so be it.   In the last few weeks, ...it happened again, and he's in the postseason.   Did he earn it? Hell yes!  He just seems to get the "spotlight" quite a bit .........

I have no qualms about ragging on CB. He's terrible. There, I said it.

And how long did you work in the game fan boy? :jerkit:

And should stand up in front of the class at whichever school is attended and make the same statement to all the instructors and students. Should be a shoo in for a job and maybe UMP45 can go watch this meteoric rise to the top (lots of MiLB near by) just like Bellino, starting as a fill in by 2019 and full time by 2022. Should get 70 games in 2019, worth about 90k by then and then a full schedule of over 100 games until full time which should be about 140k-150k to start, sounds sweet to me.

Obviously you said to not criticize umpires personally. Apply the same to other participants then.

Because we all know only the best of the best are selected to work at the major league level, right?
