Cuzzi should have been tossed for not appealing.  I mean to call that on your own when bat moved 3 inches is so wrong.  I am shocked Murphy didn't get his money's worth too.

And many of the games I go to (for better for worse), the batter wraps the bat around his body and the PU does not call it, and then appeals it. And no, the PU does not have a bast$$d pitch that he has to stay with. The PU sloughs all swings to the BU, and only even attempts those that grandma could get from the parking lot, especially if they are getting crap and taking heat for their strike zone. Hey, I'll just slough this check swing off on the BU and let him take some heat. I don't even have to have an opinion or worry about it even though it is my job just like calling balls and strikes so I will just slough it off no matter what. Let them start screaming at him. Maybe he will have to EJ somebody and then we can all have some peace and quiet.

Once Cuzzi called the swing an attempt, there is nothing he can do but eat the call (oh the horror of having to make a call without being able to get some help). He saw 110% that the batter went and called it a swing. Just because an umpire definitely misses a check swing call does not mean he should not make a call on an attempt that once again he is 110% sure on. If, when he saw it, he was not sure, IMHO he would have asked for help. Maybe the 1BU would have made the same call and missed the play also. It happens. Maybe next time when this type of swing occurs he will not be sure. Then he will go to the 1BU and hopefully the 1BU will agree that it is not a swing, but there is no guarantee of that either. After 1BU saying it is a swing, who ya going to go to now?

Will be interesting next year to see if check swing is allowed in new replay.  They aren't committed yet on is that a ball/strike argument.  TBA.

I can't see it as something to challenge. The bat has nothing to do with a checked swing. It's about intent. If they make this something to challenge then they will have to rewrite the rule.

Yes I have strapped in on as you are asking.  So I am not allowed to saw if i think an umpire made a horrible call?  We all make them and deserve to be held accountable for our actions.  Only weathermen get to be consistently wrong and keep their jobs.

No you are not allowed to say horrible. It is a missed call. To me words like horrible, terrible, etc. are all fanspeak. I don't look at MLB umpires as Gods but it is what it is. They miss calls!

Yes they miss calls.  When you miss a call sometimes its a slight missed call other times you habe blown it and that is terrible.  No matter what level we are at a blown call resulting in an out that should not be is horrible to do.

Check swings will not be reviewable. Check swing arguments are considered balls and strike arguments.

You just don't get it. When you get enough dirt on your shoes maybe you'll understand!

Wow. It's so easy to armchair umpire isn't it? Yep, have to agree. You just don't get it, and I'm not sure there IS enough dirt to put on your shoes that you will understand. A change in demeanor would go a long way.

No I get it.  I understand the point and have plenty of dirt on my shoes.  We all make mistakes.  Are we not allowed to point of egregious one and cat about it?  I just wish baseball would admit the calls more often.  NFL and NCAA Basketball/Football has recently been very outward when a horrible call was made and their officials were wrong.  Just would like to see us umpires be held to the same.

MLB supplies video of every game every umpire does. They get reports from from supervisors regularly. They do suspend umpires for misapplying rules. What else would you suggest they do, public floggings? MLB umpires rarely make mistakes, their percentages are really amazing. When they do miss one, it is usually big. This wasn't even that big a deal. He judged a swing, you disagreed.

I would like them to come out anytime a wrong call leads to an ejection.  It costs the manager or player money (yes I know they are rich) when they get the boot.  If it is because of a wrong call, the league should say the umpire was wrong and recing the ejection.

You are right, umpires do a great job and 99% of the time are right.

If that is what you want then go work the CPBL! Once again you will NEVER get it!!

But what we do not get is calling these guys out and not giving examples of oneself being called out. That is what kind of makes this annoying. Could we see video examples of every horrible call that a poster complaining about others has made. Just admitting we missed a call does not even the score of personally calling these guys out, unless we are being fair and hanging out all our dirty laundry with videos of all our horrendous calls over the years. Maybe we have some out there who have been blessed and only missed a call that a microscope could catch. It is not fair to just call out those who have the videos on them without calling out those who are fortunate enough to not have the video microscope on them. Statistics will say we are all making some of the best calls that are shown on MLB video and we are all making some of the most horrendous calls. To be consistent, the post should have started with how many times the poster themselves should have been called out for their own personal bad misses and what was done to them in being called out in their Leagues by the Commissioner's, supervisor's, State Associations for their missed call. Then we can go on to what the poster thinks should have happened to the ones in other Leagues. Remember, everyone on this board is a professional umpire if they are receiving compensation.

The way it sounds (not saying that is the way it is, just the way it sounds) in the posts is like Minnz is the greatest thing since sliced bread and has never made more than a microscopic miss that no one but Minnz could detect. Sorry if it kind of rubs us less than perfect human beings the wrong way.

We can all take it, but we want those pointing fingers to give examples of themselves making horrible calls on video for everyone here to see along with others that are missing calls. We also want to see where the poster's are being called out in their Leagues by the Commissioner's, supervisor's, State Associations, and being tossed when they miss a call, and always showing where they rescind the coaches (who just called you vile names) ejection upon proof of the missed call.

Just wanting things to be consistent across the board for all levels, not just some levels.

Sorry, it is hard to not make the above not sound personal (and I want to personally apologize to you if that is what I just did, but I do not communicate well and it was the best I could do), but it is just a poor attempt to explain what IMHO should be done if we are constantly going to be beating up on guys that are getting video'd versus guys who are not being video'd. I am just asking for a level playing field, but not trying to be personal. I like trying to learn the best I can both from positive and not so positive assessments. It seems like everyone is under a microscope these days not matter what, and I personally like to use the video's of what look to be good calls as well as those that look not so good as a learning tool, rather than a chance to overly praise or overly blast, especially the overly blast the person in the video, when I do not see someone following me around with a camera to film everything I do.

Do you know of a 'coaches and players website only' where I can go and bring up all their mistakes. Maybe that's where I should really be.

dumbdumb-I have actually been in video and have seen my mistakes.I have made plenty of wrong calls in the years of working games.  We all have.  I have never said or implied that I have not made mistakes.  If I make an egrgious error I should be disciplined as well.  If we make a wrong call and we know it or see it, we should atone for it.  Heck I have actually been an example of a wrong call on video in our association meetings.  President asked me if I minded and I said nope I deserve to be called out and used as an example.

bam-go fk yourself if you are going to make personal attacks.  Since when is giving an opinion not allowed on here?  I simply feel the MLB does the worst job of admitting when their umpires screw up.  NCAA, NFL, NHL all do a far better job.  This IMO is the biggest reason why people view the MLB umpires as the most arrogant in sports.  They get 99% of the calls right and they are the best in the world at calling baseball games.  I have never said otherwise.  I just wish they could follow their brethern more and admit LARGE mistakes.

Can i ask one serious question?  Despite all the above you chose to throw my way.  Are we NEVER allowed to suggest a way an MLB umpire should be disciplined?  Are we not allowed to have opinions and must always say the MLB umpire is the best so he just has no recourse to atone?
