A Douglas from a Douglas Douglas

Well, I've been contimplating, since I got my Douglas-Douglas last year, of removing the extra pad over the shoulder.  I found it to be very bulky, made my plate coat fit very different, and I don't feel it added THAT much extra protection.  So I finally removed it yesterday.  Felt much better last night behind the plate in an 18U showcase game.  I think I spent extra money on something that's not going to come into play.

First, why to jinx yourself.

 

Protection is always going to be a tradeoff. If we wanted full protection, we'd all use a raft. Comfort vs. style vs. 100% protection. You can't have everything. It's just a matter of calculating the risk, and doing what's best, with the information you have.

I have the D-D and I for one am glad I have the extra protection. I do not believe it adds much to the bulk at all.

It might be overkill, sure, but it's not a gimmick certainly ....

I say the added gap flap on the douglas is certianly not a gimmick. I see it just as valuable as your cup. Sure you might not get hit there in 500 games, but in that 501th game when you do, you're glad you had the extra protection.

I had one with the gray large shoulder flap and disliked the bulk it added.  Douglas offers a more slim white cap which I think would be much better.

Actually, the white and grey are the same football epaulette, just a different color ....

A Douglas-Douglas is the moniker that was given to a Douglas CP that was retrofitted with the shoulder gap caps that ALSO have the name "Douglas" on them, so you have to "Douglas" logos back to back .............here see the attachment

that would be the case w/ many CP's...you can wear a bomb suit and not feel a thing.  but sacrifice a lot of things.

Nope - there is a more narrow white one.  I emailed Jeff Cook a while ago and he said this and sent me the attached pic:

 

 

Here is a picture of our most narrow flap. It comes in White only. Its 3 ¾†wide, the other one is 5†wide. It’s $30 to add the flaps, and $25 to add the T-hook slots and t-hooks, plus tax and shipping.

Just wanted to give a shout out to my Douglas-Douglas.  Took a fouled 80+ mph fastball right into the extra epaulet on Saturday with no pain whatsoever.  Lots of "oooohs" and "ohhhhs" from the crowd when they heard it and F2 asked me if I was okay.  I simply reached into my ballbag, gave him another ball and said, "I'm fine, thanks."

 

I'm confident that 90+ would have been similar.  Potentially a little more "impactful" but still don't think it would have risen to the level of "pain."

Took 4 foul ball to my Douglas-Douglas at an 18u showcase a couple weeks ago. It was like they didn't hit me.
